I dont get why it would matter what the connector type is? it would seem very easy to wire in a new connector to your trailer or to get an adapter. I know the old 4 pin flat connector is a pain to use so anything would seem better than that.

This is the standard 7 and 4 pole trailer plug set up. My Jeep has the same one. With this plug you cover 90% of trailers the CT is rated to tow

There's nothing wrong with having the 4-pin in addition. I mean, there's an adapter to go from tow vehicle 7 pin to trailer 4 pin and I have one but it's just easier to plug your small trailer into the 4 pin and be done with it. Even my F-350s have had those two plugs so having the 4-pin doesn't mean your truck is mid-sized.

Looks like the same connector setup on my RAM so I am guessing its a standard part not brand specific IMO.

Very common 4 flat when you’re towing small trailers without brakes.
7 round is also common with brakes.
When they built my box truck, they accidentally installed a 7 round with pins. Nothing I’ve ever owned or rented had that pattern so I had them swap it upon delivery.

90%? What other trailer connectors are there that you would tow with a pickup truck? The 4 pin is for trailers without electric trailer brakes and the 7 pin is with.

There are multiple versions for different requirements.
