Right. Racing things are intentionally overkill. I think I said that.

But saying it's not overkill because you need to shave 10 minutes off your drive home... That's overkill.

Worse if it's shave 8x10 minutes by adding 2x60 minutes on a different day to get it filled... That's just priorities.

??‍♀

Are you still here on a forum about a truck with bulletproof doors and a 0-60 time of 3 seconds talking about overkill?
Powertanks are the best tool for the job and they also do not use electricity which is wise to conserve on a battery powered vehicle

I think the Rivian CEO is curled up in a fetal position under his desk right now while scanning through this thread and avoiding looking at these awesome images
It does not sound like you follow Rivian closely AT ALL. So many examples like below.

THATS CORRECT. My point is that Rivian acts like they have this niche market where the CT wont compete, but clearly this thread has reinforced how very wrong that is. The CT is going to come off the production line and dominate the market and RJ knows it. Once real orders are being filled, Tesla will produce and sell as many CTs in the first 3 mo that Rivian will have sold in the first 3 years.

They're heavier, bulkier, more expensive, take extra time to recharge the bottle.

'Best' only if you're on a race course.

The Cybertruck is advertised as lighter, more durable, cheaper.

Watch as it turns out the tank in the picture below is a Tesla version of the Powertank and the CT is able to recharge it.

No thats the suspension tank
I don't think that contradicts FutureB's point so much.

Except that some pedant might point out that liquid CO2 is held under a massive pressure and requires industrial refilling.

But the point that it's a 'tank of pressure' allowing the truck to do its pressure-based tricks quicker than the pump? Sure, that's what it is.

This looks like a job for me

CO2 compresses to liquid at relatively low pressures. An equivalent volume of air/nitrogen would require much more expensive (and larger) gear.

Well, compared to compressed air, it is. It's like 3-4x the pressure of most compressors.

I might need to change my alias to "FB/s" for a while.

Given that Elon has proclaimed the CT to be a super tech platform, who knows what will be on the CT.

I believe that the tank I showed is the air tank that will be used for the suspension. It will also need to be charged by an on-board compressor. I'll be curious to hear how loud that is when it kicks in.

But with all the arguing about the liquid CO2 and how much more powerful it would be, I wouldn't put it past Elon to have at least considered it as an option. I'm not an expert in the area so have no comment on how much weight or size the compressor would take for liquid CO2. I just know that SpaceX uses lots of compressed gasses so Elon would know and be able to make a decision one way or the other.

Industrial CO2 production is mostly just carbon-capture of combustion. Condensing it from the atmosphere is onerous.

I think CO2 is a good choice for off-road adventures, but its’ compressibility and temperature-sensitivity makes it a bad choice for on-road use. Snooty (“discerning”) drivers use dry nitrogen in their tires.

Now the next question is how much CO2 we can we sequester using Powertanks. ?

That's a huge capacity from such a tank. I want one now.
