Musk saying stupid stuff, just having fun.
I guess if you take him literally or seriously in these casual interviews you become the fool.
I have recalibrated my personal opinion of Elon, not negative, but I will let the final product declare its features and capabilities.

Because it (U8) was designed to float. It is highly doubtful that Tesla had floatation as a design requirement.
i posted without comment because, in part, the information about the U8 shows what sort of thinking/issues would be dealt with

when it's doors close, it goes through a sealing step. it has a sunroof that in float mode automatically opens for safety escape reasons. it's advertised as for emergency use only, and must go to a service center afterwards for a full inspection. etc. etc., etc.

all in all, things pointing towards what an even limited 'floating' capability would likely look like if thought through (including from a product liability perspective)

at the same time, it can be done

folks can do with all that what they will. i'll buy a boat.

Two pontoons at the front corners that turn with the wheels and paddle wheels or a geared prop. In addition, two pontoons extending beyond the tailgate. This could keep the CT a few inches above the water line.

The SS panels contributes somewhat to the structure but if the panels were removed the CT would still be structurally valid. The loads are mostly supported by the castings and unibody.
The good news is that SS panel replacement seems easy as they are snapped on or bolted on.

There is no evidence of this.

Now that would be a true post apocalyptic ranch truck. The CT without the SS panels driving around the pasture.

I don’t take him literally. I even thought about adding the question “Which bullets?”

That's an older video that most of us have seen before.

Many of his points are valid, especially his research into EM motivations, how the doors seal electronically etc. But his diamond steering idea won't be coming to CT, and so his propeller wheel thrust idea won't either. Diamond steering is simply not worth it or particularly useful for most customers and would be costly to implement. Let alone trying to solve active wheel alignment.

Much simpler to attach a balanced 2 peice centrifugal pump rotor to each of the rear driveshafts and then put a pump housing around it with a inlet/outlet pointing in the right directions, that is attached and held in place by the inside of the wheel assembly. No bearings, barely any parasitic losses out of the water. Super easy to do if it's factory built.

You are correct about how the panels are attached in such a way that loads can't be transferred to the skins and that they are only attached to the casts. There are only 4 panels that can carry load, and they are the quater fenders. Each of those are carried by the casts and not the other way around.

Also it ignores the point that for the skin to carry a load, there also has to be a load to carry in the first place. The front only has the frunk, which is carried directly by the cast, and similarly the rear, with the load path going to the air spring that is mounted in the cast itself. For the skin to carry anything, the load path would have to go from the bed, through the cast to the skin, and then back to the cast and the suspension airspring in that same cast.

Seems obvious to those that understand how forces are transferred through load paths that no meaningful load is carried by the easily attachable skins.

I've read here, a number of times, the glass won't be bulletproof. I agree. What I don't understand is, why did anyone ever think it would be? Elon (to the best of my knowledge) never said it would. He said at the unveil the 3mm 30X steel would stop a 9mm fired at 15 feet. And as was pointed out to me, youtube has a number of creators that have proven that exact thing with "lesser" quality steel. I think most use 304. On the semi, they just showed a trailer hitch and ball on a rope swinging into the windshield if I remember.

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that this is like some of the other stuff that has been attributed to him as saying or promising that he never did. If there is a post or video where he says that, please post it. I haven't seen it.
It is likely due to the confusion of the term “Armor Glass” which Tesla trademarks for the glass used in Semi and for the upcoming CT. People are confusing armor to mean being like armor plate or an armored car; i.e., bulletproof.
