If a standard battery pack Dual Motor Cybertruck MSRP’s for $79,900 are you still following through with your purchase?
If Nikola releases their Badger fuel-cell pickup this fall, in a surprise move, and it's priced at only $49,000, would you buy one? Assume there is Nikola refuelling network built out by spring of 2024 with a density approaching the Supercharger network, and the hydrogen only cost the equivalent of $2/gallon gasoline, would you buy one?

Please excuse the question, I just figured since we are asking hypothetical questions with zero chance of happening that I would get in on the fun. ?

Tesla is in a pickle with this vehicle re: radical design vs. volume vs. margin. One contributing factor re: why I recently dumped my TSLA stock.
I'll predict by mid-2024 (or before) you are going to be seriously regretting that move.

Get back to me in June and let me know how I did.

I'll get back to you in January, after I've sold my seat to some sucker.

I suspect, for a lot of dual motor reservation holders (some of which may be coming from single motor), it is not the question of if CT is worth it, it is if they want to pay that much for a truck regardless of it’s value . So even if dual motor at $79K compares favorably to Rivian, Hummer or high trims of Lightning, these folks probably didn’t buy those trucks partly because they didn’t want to pay that much. For me anything over $59K is on shaky grounds unless some specs like range is unexpectedly favorable.

Lariat ER I believe is the right specification comp to a base CyberTruck.

And so the Lightning ER is the trim most relevant to Musk’s comments that it’s a good truck, but a bit too expensive.

So what’s ‘a bit’?

Personally, for every spec or model variant that Tesla *can’t* offer on Nov. 30, I hope it means that - in order to not have the company image and stock price pummeled - it puts downward pressure on the MSRP of what they *can* offer.
I would agree that the features are most comparable with the Lariat trim but the Lightning's price is not based in reality. They couldn't make a profit on it even before the price drop. The goal of the lightning was not volume production. It was their oh shit reaction to cybertruck and government regulations. Not knocking the product, but the price is definitely high. You can get a Raptor for the same price.

If you are going after the whole truck market, ICE pricing is a better measuring stick. The starting price for cybertruck needs to be in the $60s like an ICE Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 (which is in the low $60s).

A lot of Cybertruck dreams may just go up in smoke if $79,900 is the base price of a Dual Motor Cybertruck.

Add to that a good possibility of a high insurance premium to boot.
dont forget the range currently is unknown and if 350 you'll be charging every day when the avg Kwh is gonna be between 450 and 525Kwh...man this whole show is going downhill fast......

I believe hydrogen is a lot cheaper than $2 a gallon
  • The average hydrogen pump price of $21.28/kg equals a price per mile of $0.30.
  • The Iwatani hydrogen pump price of $24,99/kg equals a price per mile of $0.35.
  • An average gasoline price of $5,46/gallon in California equals a price per mile of $0.22

The only fuel more expensive than hydrogen is “oil of endangered species”

Unfortunately NO. $10k increase to $59.990 then YES. Anything more and I am out.

For “Dual Motor” reservation holders only.

We are just over a month away from the official pricing announcement for the Cybertruck trim levels.

If a standard battery pack Dual Motor Cybertruck MSRP’s for $79,900 are you still following through with your purchase?
