Every new model that Tesla releases comes with new manufacturing techniques designed to speed production lines and make more cars using less time and less factory space, and fewer individual components that need to be joined together. This drives down the cost to produce. The Cybertruck will be the first Tesla model to exclusively use battery cells designed and built in-house by Tesla. Sure, Tesla has always built their own batteries, but the cells themselves previously came from partners and suppliers. This lowers the cost to produce.
I agree with you. Tesla is always looking for a new way to do things. Which really makes me wonder (insert Led Zeppelin background music here), what are the chances that the CT and the 3/Y options to wrap the car are a indication they are thinking this is the way to go? Meaning, Tesla doesn't paint ANY car, and if you want color, it's a wrap job. Could this be a view of the future? Your car can change colors every few years. Wrap material is bound to improve and eventually become virtually permanent. Is paint becoming so yesterday?

Reservation holders simply have to look at the BEV pickup competition already on the market to get an idea regarding new MSRP’s. Nothing on the market is inexpensive other than the fleet focused $52k Lightning Pro which is virtually impossible to order.
The Lightning pro is not "virtually impossible" to order, no individual can order one. It's available only in very limited quantities and only to fleet operators (almost certainly with other conditions attached). In other words, it's a fake offering that only exists so Ford can claim the Lightning "starts at" a low price. Totally fake. Ford loses money on every Lightning they sell, and they lose even more on the handful of Pro models they will sell to big buyers. it probably comes with the condition that the fleet buyer also buys a certain number of overpriced combustion models, for every Lightning Pro they get.

-A 2024 Dual Motor Lightning Flash/Lariat will start at $72k
-A Dual Motor Rivian R1T with a large battery pack starts around $80k

The technology in the Cybertruck will blow both of them out of the water. Neither one has RWS, 800 volt charging architecture, 48 volt electrical system, super durable stainless steel exterior, aluminum Giga castings front and rear, steer-by-wire technology (maybe), no handles anywhere on the vehicle, heat pump HVAC technology, superior software, access to the painless Supercharging network, etc.
Good points!

The Canoo pickup will be the only truly affordable pickup if it ever goes into production. The truck is basically a 21st century version of the old VW air-cooled pickup truck.
It's a little premature to declare a pickup that is not even in production, will be the only affordable option. The chances of Canoo making the planned production run of 20,000 units are almost as low as winning the lottery. I hope they do it, but I have to call it how I see it. Canoo has all the markings of a company that will never be able to execute the wonderful things they speak about. And specs and prices are subject to change. 20K units is not enough to be able to offer a low price.

Even if GM and Ford sell a few EV pickups at a low price and a large loss, their dealerships will mark them up to levels that make no sense to purchase. For the next three years, at a minimum, the only affordable EV pickup will be be made by Tesla. And when I say "affordable" I am only speaking relative to the average selling prices of their gas burning trucks.

The Model X Dual Motor with 348 miles of range is $79,990. With a $1,390 Destination Fee and a $250 Order Fee it ends up $81,630.

Here’s some info from Tesla’s website:

Est. loan payment
$1,295 /mo
$4,500 (6%) down, 6.49% APR, 72 months
Includes $1,390 destination fee
Excluding taxes & other fees

I’m not sure where you can get a loan that cheap on a new car unless Tesla is financing it. You might also qualify for the $7,500 tax credit.
Thanks for the numbers!! I do qualify for the $7,500 and will be using it as the Downpayment. Wasn’t there talk of an 84month financing option…?

Theres no restriction on the purchase of lightning pros outside being a qualified fleet buyer.

What are the requirements to get the $7500 tax credit?

Unless one shows up at a dealer.

So... Anyone can buy one, hardly any fleets can order them, and who cares? It's too big anyhow.

-Crissa

Too big?? For people that don’t actually need a truck I guess it is

The Ford Lightning is too big? Maybe too heavy, but not too big, the bed is not even 6 feet long, more like 5 1/2 feet.

And no, not anyone can buy a Lightning Pro anymore, Ford has said the least costly version is limited to fleet buyers, not individuals. They will not be sending any more to dealers and you can bet any Pro models that are still on the lot are only there because the dealer decided to hold it hostage to a ridiculously high price.

which case I believe that’s a few bucks lower than original unveil pricing for a Lariat ER l, but a few thousand higher for the base Lariat
