Keeping my resv. plus added another $250 resv. just now.

I am old and retired and this may be my last vehicle so I just need one that will eventually drive me back and forth to the doctor or hospital (ha ha) while keeping me safe from armed carjackers or in case the FSD fails on the road and I actually get to experience the CT's crumple zones.

Plus I'm thinking this will become Tesla's halo car as S and X sales dwindle over time, so personally I'm okay with the (still significant) price increases.

He doesn't need a handler, people just need to get a thicker skin.
It's Musk that needs thicker skin. Maybe that will protect him when Prince Bonesaws tries to even the score for his $10 Billion loss with Twitter.

Sure but they'll be lucky to produce 150,000 vehicles in the next 2 years. At these price demand probable won't support more than 100,000 Cybertrucks per year after that.
If they don't drop prices after 1 year, I'm willing to bet production craters to S/X levels. I wonder if that's not the plan already. I mean, they have the $25k model in the works and have decided to build it in Austin. If they use 4680's for that as well, they'll want to prioritize those cells for the small vehicle. This would be a smart move, if that's the case. But who knows. I'm probably just reading too much into it and they did this just because they know there's enough people for the next year who will buy it. Exactly like the model 3 rollout (with the exception that the range actually met expectations)

The complaints & praise are both right:
  • Increasing prices 50%+ from announcement seems excessive if you pre-ordered for purpose of affordability
  • If you have the disposable income and wanted bells and whistles, you may feel even more "elite" if others are priced out
It's clear that the market has changed, but Elon isn't stupid. He said what he needed to attract maximum attention and then chose the path to maximize revenue.

Looking at the specs & price comparison side-by-side, seems like AWD is the obvious choice for 99% of people:
https://earlybird.club/news/cybertruck-specs-comparison/

The truck LOOKS cool, but does it lose its novelty if everyone has one? I think the originality and exclusivity is part of what appeals to people. Would people be as drawn to it if they were cheap and easy to get?

In short, Elon wants Tesla to be Apple, not Android, and he's pricing it accordingly.

I do wonder, though... if Elon didn't buy Twitter and still had that $40B+ cash, would anything have gone differently with Tesla/CT these past few years?
Considering X would unlikely sell for more than 20% of the purchase price, Elon has to try to make up for all those $billion he incinerated. He's got to feed his family after all.

Terrible. No respect for their original pricing, or interest in getting regular people interested in the truck. There is no way Tesla became 30k less efficient over the last 4 years - this is straight up price gauging since they know they can get it from their most loyal/rich customers. Very disappointing - hoped Tesla cared about their customers and the mission more than this.
I am wondering if that’s exactly what they plan to do is take a year and sell 150k to all the wealthy folks and recoup some of their huge investment then drop the price to keep sales going. I actually think prices will drop sooner than later.

Yeah I'll wait out for a price reduction and large pack....I would just do dual motor large pack for ideally 75k before rebate.

With these prices they will prob make about 60k units a year....no where near 250k lol...

What they could do is make a pro version and get rid of the air suspension and powered tonneau and make a dual motor 65k before rebate and 300 mile range.
I wish they would have kept the tonneau off and wrapped the stainless up over the sail pillars it would have looked much cleaner.

Isn't the AWD version still a tri-motor? Beast mode is just an higher output motor. I read somewhere that all versions had two motors for the rear.
Then where does the added 250 lbs come from? Probably added motor and cabling and better brakes.

I find it legimately head scratching how many people are shocked and disappointed by the numbers revealed today. Did you all truly not expect substantial increases relative to 2019? Really?
Steel prices are back to what they were at around the reveal date. 30% maybe. Not 60% increase. That’s really poor foresight. Elon will surely learn a lesson from this just like the Twitter lesson.

I believe all CT will have same front motor…different rear motor setup…the dual rear motor has prob 7500 lb ft of to…which is crazy

One could argue that the “lesson” should be believing Elon in a non-binding, non-contractual situation. We can debate the price of steel all day; there was never, ever any chance of Cybertruck launching at the prices referenced in 2019. It truly shocks me that people are just now realizing it.

That's why they will lose millions of customers
Probably but I doubt they actually believed every $100 preorder was gonna turn into a purchase. I imagine they’ve probably lost tens of thousands with the delay alone but they weren’t gonna be able to please everyone no matter what they did. If they sold them all for $25,000, someone would complain they’re not making them fast enough.
