I would say the cybertruck project is currently a failure.

Not because the truck is bad or because they won't sell, but because it started as a goal to create a work truck that wasn't so expensive you were scared to scratch it. In part because of their celebrated manufacturing.

Instead it's priced like a Raptor and has pricey accessories for the hobbyist and city poser.

I still want one, I just hoped it stayed as a truck most think is ugly and had the pure intention of being a working class hero truck.

The interview with top gear host and the VP of engineering and with franz, they mentioned that to keep the truck affordable they did run through options to remove the powered tonneau and I would assume they also talked about removing other pricey equipment like the suspension system or powered frunk probably. That suspension is probably $8k by itself.
More expensive than that. My RR has air suspension. A pump is $3k and theres 4 of them.

I could be wrong, but I thought you stated there would be no single motor.

The single motor was definitely a surprise

but to be fair, it wasn’t released. I could have been the person in charge of building CTs at both Fremont and GFTX and not still not known the single was being previewed.

because to be fair-fair, zero singles have been built to date, won’t be available for ~2 years, and we all remember the last time Musk said a CT trim was coming in two years. ??ā€ā™‚??

The upside is the single gives us all something to still sleuth and argue about

The down side noones quite said outloud: Tesla also could have previewed a 500mi/HD trim in 2025, but didn’t.

In a way, the single motor preview, plus the surprise range extender module, are a collective nail in the coffin of a 500mi/HD version coming - at least anytime anytime soon.

Steel prices are almost back to 2020 prices. Not much inflation there.
Thank You!!!!, I was doing a little bit of a research an basically raw materials(CT specifics) have come down around 8-12% as per 3q23 vs 3q22, it gets better. 2-4% down 3q22 vs 3q21. You get the idea. Elon is appealing to see how far he can stretch those prices before coming down to reality. I have a feeling that those Stellanties guys have smell blood and they are coming with more affordable version of that Ramcharger.

We got the near 500 mile trip motor trim with the battery box. The problem is it eats up a third of the bedspace and the cost is a lot more. At the end of the day I can get what I needed. It’s closer to the Raptor R that I was looking at. And comparative to the Ford/Rivian/GM offerings. I think initially we all thought we would be getting a deal on a super truck, now it looks like we’re getting a normally priced super truck. That’s my impression of what disappoints most people. I wish I were still saving money by going to Tesla, but that obviously isn’t happening…

Still have sticker shock but honestly it makes sense considering this is literally brand new tech, newer more difficult manufacturing, steer by wire, 48v/800v architecture, unparalleled toughness & considering the Plaid S/X are in the 90s it makes sense why the Cyberbeast is slightly more … maybe i’m just trying to come up with personal reasons to justify it ?.

If I were a betting person, I'd say you absolutely could supercharge it otherwise it makes ZERO sense for towing long distances. They would be crucified otherwise. I bet it is a 'permanent' install too. They aren't going to store 700 lbs (50 kWh * 14.1 lbs) range extenders for you.

My outstanding question is can you install it a couple of years later after your main pack has degraded 5-10%?

actually due to the efficiencies built into the Tesla CT, you DO SAVE MONEY when you factor in the maintenance, gas & energy savings…
