Through his personal Instagram account, Governor Samuel García assured that the cyberbeast call will be made at the Santa Catarina assembly plant.

The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García Sepúlveda, revealed that in the Gigafactory Cybertruck will be produced, as well that the Teslathe most economical model of which will be built in Santa Catarina ..

Nuevo León, Mexico.- Tesla has confirmed that the production of its highly anticipated truck Cybertruck will initially be carried out at its Texas factory. Subsequently, the Santa Catarina plant in Monterrey, Nuevo León, will be in charge of hosting the second assembly line for this innovative vehicle.

The decision to carry out production in two phases is due to logistical and construction time considerations. The factory in Texas will be the first to launch production of the Cybertruck, taking advantage of its capacity and efficiency in the assembly process.

Subsequently, the Santa Catarina plant will take over the second assembly line, thus contributing to the expansion of production capacity.

Holy COW!!

Not just potential 1 mill volume, (which I doubt is needed), but surely it bodes well for a CT price reduction. For Australians, every dollar reduced can be worth almost twice as much.

And increased volume by say 2026... We may get it about then.

Because of Mexico's vast number of free trade agreements, I theorized years ago that Giga-Austin would be best for Cybertrucks to be delivered to U.S. customers and a Giga-Mexico might be best for Cybertrucks to be sold in Mexico and those exported worldwide (Central America, South America, Caribbean islands, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand).

I'm with Tesla Daily on this, the announcement doesn't make much sense, there's not much advantage to building it down there, except as export, and this is in error.

Tesla would not be considering a second line unless they plan to drop the price to more palatable levels.
Come to think of it, Is a 'line' 250,000? EM said ~'Maybe 500,000', I guess he is giving the CT more time to prove its sales, and then confirm Mexico production.

It may not be 1 mill after all, I had 500,000 in Austin in the back of my mind.

I don't see it happening, export markets for Cybertruck are not large enough to warrant a dedicated factory. The van on the Cybertruck platform on the other hand ...

LLM brainstorming angle on why (like others) Tesla would be building a 2nd location in Mexico.

Ford sells over a million trucks annually. Even with 2 factories, Tesla still won't be able to produce enough to take over Ford.

The goal is to produce as many as possible and allow as many people to buy them. The entire design of the Cybertruck is to be able to be produced cheaply, quickly, and at scale. Look at all the parts they are currently using on the Cybertruck, many are super simple and cheap to produce. They will eventually get down to the announced price. But it might be a while before that happens.

Full-size ICE pickups are largely U.S., Canada, and Mexico but Cybertruck EV with huge secure vault and better maneuverability (tighter turning) has much broader appeal.

Because there are so few choices in EVs in large SUV and pickup segments there are many who would buy Cybertruck who would never have considered gas guzzling full-size SUVs & full-size pickups but who might consider Cybertruck. A lot of these buyers will be outside U.S..

A lot of the over 1 million Cybertruck reservations is because of demand from other segments NOT just previous full-size truck owners. Even some sedan & hatchback owners.

Cybertruck can take share of many segments:

medium-size SUVs

large SUVs

compact & medium-size pickups
( Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline,
Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, Ford Maverick)

full-size 1/2-ton (F-150/1500) pickups

low-end of full-size 1-ton (F-250/2500) pickups.

I have 5 reservations and those are to cover uses in medium-size SUVs, large SUVs, medium-size pickup, full-size 1/2-ton (F-150/1500) pickup.

Right, and that does not cover the millions more from combined pickup truck output of GM/Chevrolet, RAM, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Isuzu, Great Wall Motors, Jiangling Motors (JMC), Mahindra, Isuzu, Foton Motor.

Analysis of 54 top markets found 86 million vehicles were sold in 2018.
Global car market remains stable during 2018.
By JATO Dynamics Limited
https://www.jato.com/global-car-mar...ts-decline-in-sales-of-compact-cars-and-mpvs/

.....
2018 marked a good year for pickups as global volume totaled 5.2 million units, up by 5% on 2017. Surprisingly, the growth in the segment was not driven by the US, where more than half of global sales are recorded, but by Thailand and Brazil.

.....
All SUV sub-segments recorded positive results. Compact SUVs continued to be the most popular among consumers, recording 12.3 million sales during 2018, followed by midsize SUVs with 7.2 million sales. Elsewhere, small SUVs recorded double-digit growth with 6.6 million sales, while 3.7 million large SUVs were sold. A record 29.77 million SUVs were sold in 2018.

I'm won't be surprised that once the current Giga Texas is mostly finished, they will begin the 2nd Giga factory on the same plot of land to produce more trucks/van and Model 2/Robotaxi.
