It doesn’t hurt to ask for a refund or perhaps a credit towards a non-FS CT or another Tesla vehicle. Let us know the outcome should you choose to try and get a refund.
I was considering the same… would the $79,000 AWD be eligible for the tax credit if we take the “discounted” 7k FSD? If so… it might be worth a few month wait…..

Sad to hear this. I am going to pull the plug on the FS but I would keep the reservation for the normal AWD and see if something improves on the range performance and home link and the charging speed. Sounds like that will not be an option for me. Ah well better to lose a few hundred than to get stuck with a $100k vehicle that will not meet my needs.
I will call them in the am and see if I get a different answer.
What did Tesla tell you? I’m considering the same… currently trying to “value” the extras from the FS to my needs. (I would prefer snow tires vs all terrain)…

It’s not exclusive not matter what they tell us.. it’s a money grab.

I can etch and buy white trim panels for my regular truck when it arrives..

After that the only unique ‘feature’ is the VIN..

I vaguely remember a thread a week or so ago from someone who cancelled their FS and their entire reservation was cancelled. They had to go to the back of the line if they wanted to reserve again.

Anyone else remember this or am I smoking crack? ?
If I remember correctly, someone contacted a tesla employee and they said that if you do not act on your foundation invite, you stay in the queue. However if you go through and order, it generates an order number and if you don't follow through, the order is cancelled and you go to the end of the queue (if you submit another order).

Understand that this is just hearsay.

You have not cancelled a confirmed order with this language in it. Also, the confirmed order actually lists out all these items in the first page and later refers in the legal lingo by definition. So, no, If you ordered you are on hook. However, it is Tesla decision to enforce it do to the language they used there (we may...).
Hi - to be clear:

1. I did cancel an order with that language in it.

2. Tesla refunded me my $100 and kept the $250.

3. The first page does not list all of those items. It lists an Order Fee and a Destination Fee (as well as an Original Reservation Payment) but does not list an Order Deposit or Transportation Fee.

4. Be cooler with people. Some folks actually have done the things they say they have done.

Tesla would be wise to pay some attention to the position and opinions of people on this thread, particularly those that are deciding to cancel their FS orders. We are among Teslas most ardent supporters. We are the exact demographic the FS is aimed at. For the good of this project they need to course correct now. No worse public relations move than converting fanboys into a never Tesla again gang. I suspect many people that have following this forum with great excitement since its inception are starting to feel lied to and angry. I know I am. Already turned down the FS. Inching closer to taking the CT entirely of my wish list. Plenty of other toys to replace it in my universe.

Yeah I am retired too and probably in the same boat. I have put off my wish to get the CT probably for a couple of years and as a tesla owner and share holder, I am tired of the up and downs in the stock so I have sold some of my shares as well.

But one thing that I have learned is not to count Elon out as he thrives on mayhem and chaos. The next year or two may be rough on tesla fanboys, but eventually he does get things right though it may take a few years.

Tesla said no dice on keeping the reservation for a "regular" AWD. I had two choices: move forward with FS (I had already confirmed order on 12/8) or cancel altogether and lose my order fee ($250). I chose the latter.

I suspect the foundation series was created to cover the gap before they are able to ramp up production and also as a test bed to get the truck into more experienced (previous Tesla owner) hands so that a lot of bug fixing can be done before mass adoption.

Simply put, this is a brand new platform and if you don't want to be an early adopter then perhaps there are better options for you out there. My solid guess is that there will not be a regular dual motor sold to the public until late this year or maybe even 2025.

Tesla operates on a very lean design and production model. Most other manufacturers do not. They unveil concept cars that never see the light of day and then release bland iterations of what they were already making years before.

I mean, look at the F150 Lightning. It's literally an ICE F150 platform with an electric drivetrain slapped in. Boring.

Yeah sounds like it’s true. A couple of people confirmed it on another thread.

I ordered Dec 8th, so that I could get it ASAP. That is the value I don't care about numbers. Its like a fast pass at an amusement park, I pay to skip all the regular people and I don't care how many of the fast passes the park sells.
Well put. The Fast Pass analogy is spot on.

Look at the Ram EV. It was revealed and looked amazing, everyone wanted it. Then a few months later they showed the real Ram EV, and it was nothing at all like what they showed just a few months prior. The duration of time between the first and second showings of the Ram EV means they knew what they were doing with a bait and switch, it was just dirty.

The CT didn't hit all of its specs, but it is closer to the reveal than Ram. The fact it still looks like it does is an accomplishment. My guess is that in 2035 the CT hits the performance specs they stated, it was a pre-release hope, there was just no way to accomplish today.

I think they will hit the 500 mile range to make towing possible much sooner than that. I'd say no more than 3 or 4 years from now. Just a guess.

"making me question just how exclusive this edition truly is."

Hi. The poster raises a valid question. I've never been one to pay extra for "Special Edition" cars, motorcycles, guns, PCs, etc. Also, I don't believe Tesla has published the cap on Foundation Series but let's look at some numbers and see if we can gain some perspective here.

Let’s make a few (hopefully somewhat reasonable) assumptions:

There are current reports of 2.3 Million reservations that are growing at 10,000 new reservations every day.
There will doubtless be some cancellations also.
So let’s assume ~ 300,000+ people cancel leaving 2 Million reservations convert to orders. (the math is easier)
Let’s assume reservations stop piling up today (silly, I know, but we need to do this to make the math work)

Speaking of math, I apologize if my math is off – please feel free to correct it.
I’m interested in truth, not stroking my vanity.

If 1000 Foundation Series are made / 2 Million orders = .0005 = 0.05% = 99.95% are standard Cybertrucks, 0.05% are Foundation Series. I’d say that’s (very) exclusive.

If 10,000 (!) Foundation Series are made / 2 Million orders = .005 = 0.5% = 99.5% are standard Cybertrucks, 0.5% are Foundation Series. I’d say that’s pretty darn exclusive also.

And just for giggles, if 100,000 (!!!) Foundation Series / 2 Million orders = .05 = 5% = 95% are standard Cybertrucks, 5% are Foundation Series. Still exclusive in my book!

So, if we’re just trying to get a sense of exclusivity, I’d say the Foundation Series will certainly be that. If exclusivity is worth it to you, is another question. In my case, I got the invite from Tesla for a Foundatin Series and I pulled the trigger – but not for the exclusivity. I place a value on having 6-18 months of “Cybertruck utility” starting Q1 or Q2 this year versus waiting god-knows-how-long for standard CT delivery. I want the truck and the $20k premium seemed (mostly) offset by the included FS accessories and hardware. But that’s me. YMMV and that’s perfectly fine. Again, my logic is for me (alone) and I make no claims that it works for everyone. Anyway, I hope this helps lend some perspective on the numbers. Good luck!
