Kid dropped iPad down tonneau cover slit.

This is one edge case that Tesla didn’t consider but opens up an entire avenue for debugging that will probably end up in a service manual. Maybe Tesla will fix it for free for the experience …

This is a bad scenario. While cover was closed he dropped his iPad down the slit where the cover rolls back into. We cannot see it as it went probably to the base of the well. I’m terrified to hear what it will involve to retrieve it. We cannot use the cover now as something will get damaged for sure.
Anyone else drop something down there?

I don’t know if this will work. But… look at the instructions for installation of the base camp tent that Tesla sells. I *think* that requires removal of that piece between the tonneau and glass roof. Granted, it contemplates the tonneau being completely rolled up. But maybe there’s a way for you to do it if you just retract the tonneau a little.
No idea. Just throwing out a suggestion you might have already considered.

In all seriousness as i think about it more.. the tonneau does not roll all the way down.. it comes to rest just out of sight of the rear glass in still a vertical position. So maybe iPad is wedged between Tonneau and the abyss

Yes.. and they put things into slots very precariously to work on their dexterity. And “to see what happens”… if the cover stores there, why can my iPad not store there also? ?

He sat it up there, it was dark as the cover was closed and is slipped right down. Not his finest moment. And yes that schematic is what i saw and realized this can be horrific.

does opening the aero flap give you any additional access to see down there? I don't have mine yet to check, but from the Basecamp videos I've seen, it looks like it might.
