50K for me.

Of course prices from launch to today are quite different. A 40K truck does not exist.

And prices are falling.

I was a very early reservation holder and moved my reservation address a few miles from the factory and was able to order in the early days - as well as my cousin. We both changed our minds and didn't order. When I read about how much attention owners got driving it around I decided to not buy one as wife and family wouldn't be able to handle the attention. So a 100K for a toy for me wasn't going to happen.

But I really like the way the CT drives. So one day I want it as a big boy toy.

I will buy a used one once they hit 50K (as long as it still is under some warranty).

You can’t buy any new regular gas truck for this price now

i honestly hope they don’t drop the price too much. I want it to stay profitable, so they will continue to build them, even if it is at a higher premium price. this way software updates and replacement parts keep being built. Feels like if it doesn't make a prof it, it’s not something Tesla would keep around.

I reserved the $40k RWD trim back in November of 2019.

I will bite if the upcoming RWD version starts around $60k.

With new tariffs on steel happening soon, I don’t think CT prices will go down. Most don’t realize how expensive Trucks are. Would you get a R1T or Ford Raptor at $50K in the future? If not, don’t expect AWD CT that has dent resistant metal body, adjustable suspension, $2500 lbs payload, 11,000 lbs towing, 320 miles range, and huge vaulted secure bed to be available at $50K!!! You might get a used one for sure but not a new one!

When the Cybertruck was launched in November 2019, the announced starting price was $39,900. That seemed like a very competitive price at the time, and it undoubtedly drove a lot (probably most) of the 2 million pre-orders.

According to the US government's Inflation Calculator, $39,900 in November 2019 dollars would be equivalent to $49,280 in January 2025 dollars.

Another way to look at it: in 2019, the Model 3 started at $36,200 (the Model Y was not yet available). So a base model Cybertruck was supposed to cost about 10.5% more than a base Model 3. Today, the Model 3 starts at $42,490 (without tax credits or gas savings). So if a base Cybertruck was 10.5% more, that would be about $46,950.

So either way you look at it, a $50,000 price for a base Cybertruck today would be more or less in line with the announced pricing back in 2019. I'm sure it would be popular, just as the 2019 pricing was popular. Not convinced that we are ever going to see such pricing though.

$60k is the most common number I hear, before $7,500

So think most people are between $50-$60

More CTs on the road are better for everyone, cheaper parts, faster service, less middle fingers, the list goes on.
BUT for there to be many more on the road the price has to come down some more.

Tesla is a company that is good a making money. I'm not sure how long they would keep a non-profitable vehicle around waiting for to become popular. But a low volume expensive car, i.e. Model S/X they would keep around. Apple is the same way, and while the people that loved the small iPhone mini LOVED the phone, it just wasn't profitable enough. I don't think there are enough CyberTruck Lovers out there to make it profitable. I'd love to be wrong, and have a lot of cheap CT driving around, but hate to be right and have it discontinued. Once Tesla makes it cheaper, they won't be able to reverse that decision(Based on we need to make money.)

SO for fun I priced out a 2025 Tacoma hybrid at $58,640. Add in fuel + oil changes for four years and the total cost of ownership is around $67,500. So year 4-5 is where the Cybertruck is less expensive than a gas alternative when using a moderately priced gas truck.

At that point you should have about everything covered via warranty for both vehicles.
Did you base the fuel savings off mostly home charging? Price per kwh will really move the needle for both home and supercharging.
Also who is going to get a CT with no FSD? :)
