SO for fun I priced out a 2025 Tacoma hybrid at $58,640. Add in fuel + oil changes for four years and the total cost of ownership is around $67,500. So year 4-5 is where the Cybertruck is less expensive than a gas alternative when using a moderately priced gas truck.

Tacoma was my top choice before buying CT. It’s not apples to apples. Tacoma doesn’t have secure 6’ bed with adaptable suspension. It doesn’t have the insane acceleration or steer by wire, which is a game changer. The closest you want to compare is Raptor or R1T or Lightning, but they all still fall short of several things! There is nothing like CT out there to have an apple to apple price comparison. At the best you could compare AWD to Beast! ?

Exactly!
While i have some "edge cases" due to rural trave which makes a icemobile somewhat of a necessity (can rent for one trip a year), the only comparison to a Cybertruck is a Cyberbeast!

And...pretty much, if it doesn't have FSD, based on my Model Y experience, I aint' buyin!

this is a another Wishful question/quest-as a long term T$LA investor it's not the Price but the Size that matters to me-way too big! Hope Tesla is working/planning a mid size Cybertruck.

What discounts was DeLorean running after 1983 to get rid of excess inventory?

When the Cybertruck was launched in November 2019, the announced starting price was $39,900. That seemed like a very competitive price at the time, and it undoubtedly drove a lot (probably most) of the 2 million pre-orders.

According to the US government's Inflation Calculator, $39,900 in November 2019 dollars would be equivalent to $49,280 in January 2025 dollars.

Another way to look at it: in 2019, the Model 3 started at $36,200 (the Model Y was not yet available). So a base model Cybertruck was supposed to cost about 10.5% more than a base Model 3. Today, the Model 3 starts at $42,490 (without tax credits or gas savings). So if a base Cybertruck was 10.5% more, that would be about $46,950.

So either way you look at it, a $50,000 price for a base Cybertruck today would be more or less in line with the announced pricing back in 2019. I'm sure it would be popular, just as the 2019 pricing was popular. Not convinced that we are ever going to see such pricing though.
Well said.

Well, I see another post where AWD model is now $75K at showrooms in Cali.

https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/new-discounts-on-2024-cybertrucks.36231/

Problem is the CT is not selling. It is too controversial and too much road rage against them. And the styling is love or hate (I like it).

I can see used AWDs at 50K in a year or so.

My cousin paid a small fortune for his Plaid. You can get Plaids used for under 60K. They are a very cool vehicle but once the luster of shredding tires wears off it is just an overpriced EV.

But I am trying to escape the USA again so I may never get a CT.

78k and FSD transfer was good enough for me in December. But mostly it was a matter of the stock price spiking to a level that I had enough profit and was ok with parting with some shares in exchange for CT. And I've already bought back some of those shares on the current dip.

My target was $60k including FSD. That's what I have saved.

Although with the market as it is... I don't know if we'll be able to pull the trigger.

I am more generous-65k+FSD transfer is good enough ?

I reserved the $40k RWD trim back in November of 2019.

I will bite if the upcoming RWD version starts around $60k.
I reserved a 39k CT 4 years ago but turned down their offer for a Foundation series. Then I was offered dual motor for 79k and I took the deal. It was the best thing I ever did. More fun than all of my previous vehicles put together and I’ve owned many.

For what it's worth I'm holding out for fit and finish improvements and price is secondary. Don't get me wrong, less expensive is certainly better. I think the final hold out for me is the revision of the panels that have been flying off for the past 8 months. Soon as they get that sorted out I will likely pull the trigger.... and if it happens to be a bit more or a bit less than they are now that's fine.

On the other hand I can't wait forever because there will always be something... it's just that there has been a never ending flow of somethings on the cybertruck since release. It seems like it's slowing down and most of the issues are getting resolved.

$65 for AWD is the number that I would of bought and not worried about taking it to service every other month to fix something. $72,500 is good if I'm not bringing it to service as often and don't have a fear of the car wash ripping off the panel above the windows.

50K for me.

Of course prices from launch to today are quite different. A 40K truck does not exist.

And prices are falling.

I was a very early reservation holder and moved my reservation address a few miles from the factory and was able to order in the early days - as well as my cousin. We both changed our minds and didn't order. When I read about how much attention owners got driving it around I decided to not buy one as wife and family wouldn't be able to handle the attention. So a 100K for a toy for me wasn't going to happen.

But I really like the way the CT drives. So one day I want it as a big boy toy.

I will buy a used one once they hit 50K (as long as it still is under some warranty).
Good luck! Even my Nissan Frontier costed $46 two years ago.
