At a tire shop for exact same problem. Did you press Tesla to send you a replacement tire under warranty? I’m going to if they find any issues

No. It seems like it’s hit and miss for people with similar issues with the Goodyear tires. Some service centers have repaired / replaced the tire, but more often they refer you to talk to Goodyear about warranty claims. I just decided having the tire shop yank the broken chunk of foam was the easiest solution.

I’m on the pirelli scorpion tires not Goodyear but yah leaves a bad taste on my tongue if it was designed to work and does not. Now Tesla’s telling me the replacement warranty has to come from Pirelli themselves.

foam removed so now 3 tires have it one does not, the shop could not do a rotation job for me either so I’ll have to get it done somewhere else

It sounds like the foam separation is much worse on yours than mine. The tire I had with the chunk removed still mostly has the rest of the foam inside and they were able to properly balance it at a local americas tire in my area.

But I would also note, that the tire shop I went to also said that if there was significant separation in any of the tires, which would make it I’mpossible to properly balance, they would likely remove all of the foam from all of the tires if I was ok with it. I told told them I was fine with it, but luckily in my case it was just a chunk they ended up cutting out of one and balancing was not an issue.

Are most or all of these Pirelli’s? Or does this occur on ATs as well?

would like to get your follow up on this once you confirm exactly what ends up being. Hope it is fixed quick.
So after breaking down the tires and checking for foam separation, my tires are fine. So the Head Tech at West Chester, Pa. SC took it out for a test drive. He put it in service mode and disabled the rear drive. After about 10 seconds of driving he basically new it was the front inverter. Part is a week out, appointment for next Thursday. Tesla allotted time for repair is 2.7 hours?

Edit: procedure now calls out dropping the drive unit. Book time is 3.6 hours though. (Edit: new time study updated today)

Yes, I just learned that at least two of my tires had foam that was loose in there and causing instability. This was assessed at my local tire shop I’ve been using for years. The source of the issue is bad glue. There’s barely any glue on it. It’s a linear stream in the middle and they said that other high tires that have foam in the inside are glued 100% to the surface and it’s almost impossible to pull it out. These were pulled out with about 1/2 pound of pressure…for safety reasons and instability at highway speeds, I’m having to remove the foam. We’ll see if the sound is bad.

Good pic, always wanted to see the foam inside. I would expect Tesla to cover that under the warranty
