Wow. First off, prayers to anyone involved in this crash and the families affected by it. Secondly, the amount of energy in this crash had to have been off the charts. The CT looks like it did exactly as it should which is to essentially disintegrate while absorbing that energy. Just amazing how intact the cabin is while the entire front end is gone and nowhere in sight.

Im glad to be in one of the safest vehicles there is. Now to convince the wife to trade in her MX for a CT.
I’m still waiting on the sandbox tip over video for the CT that Tesla has made for the X and S. Where it doesn’t roll over or it rolls right side up.

Simply incredible. Gotta be one of the biggest reasons to be in a CT (or at least any Tesla). The safety bubble to protect yourself (and loved ones) from what you can’t control.

From AI - so take it for what it's worth.
...
  • Comparison: This means gas cars are roughly 61 times more likely to catch fire than EVs, when comparing per 100,000 sales.
I know its from AI, but I believe the general conclusion. Its important to not become complacent. Just because a different vehicle than yours is more likely to catch fire, it doesn't mean yours cant. Have a plan, talk to your family about what to do in a fire. Right now everyone I drive with knows about the emergency releases, but as of yet there is not a reliable plan to escape should the doors be jammed or blocked. The glass might be an insurmountable barrier. I just ordered the BRB escape tool, hopefully it will help.

I carry a fire extinguisher in my CT, but I know it will do exactly jack shit to put out an EV fire, its mostly to help put out fires I see while driving.

Maybe a Houston area poster can get more information.
The male driver, 66, of the Tesla was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to investigators. He was later pronounced dead. His identity hasn't been revealed.
I'm in Houston, but its a big place. This is now the 2nd death in a CT in Houston alone. The first one happened a few miles from my house. A lot of my neighbors thought it was me that died. I actually talked to one of the employees at a tow yard and they showed me pictures of the CT on their phone. It was burned down to almost nothing. I really hope they were immediately knocked unconscious and didn't suffer.

What constitutes a mass casualty trauma kit?

Interestingly, I just added a one handed operation tourniquet to my shop medical station…. This is designed to be self applied in case of a catastrophic injury to an arm or hand with no else around.

All great advice, complacency kills. You can't prepare for everything, but that doesn't mean you should be prepared for nothing. I have an annihilator in my truck, im pretty sure it'll get me out.

Total crash energy ≈ 1.8 × 10⁶ joules (1.8 megajoules)

That’s roughly equivalent to:

  • the energy released by half a stick of dynamite, or
  • enough energy to lift a small car 150 feet (45 m) straight up.

From chat with both vehicles going 60 mph
