I’ve had MyQ since at least 2018 as part of my smart home set up. Before I ever got a Tesla I used it to monitor whether my garage was open or not open it remotely all of the things. I created ITTT Routines with it and everything else. It’s not my first rodeo with this technology! Well before they decided to go to a subscription model! Well, before it was built into any garage door openers.

It’s great for what it is. And it normally works but not as a primary. Remember when people were up in arms about Apple removing the headphone jacks before people were comfortable with it I was very comfortable with that I hadn’t used a plug-in headset for probably five years before they finally pulled the trigger. Marquez still complains about it to this day on occasion.

This is much worse. There really is no justification for it. I gotta STRAP a 1970s CLICKY BOX into my futuristic vehicle because of this oversight/overreach. It’s dumb.

resurrecting this for those who are curious -

I DM'd someone (would rather not disclose who) on X with very very close ties to Cybertruck development and asked about Homelink capability. Unfortunately, the Cybertruck does not and will not have Homelink capability.

"I think I mentioned this somewhere, but we have no HW back up for Homelink"

This means for the foreseeable future we won't see this as an option and there will be no retrofit at a later date.

Poor sales probably isn't helping them prioritize this. Still annoyed that my Model 3/Y had a better feature here than the CT. Annoying to carry the remote to open the community gate. My solution is of course convince the HOA to install a MyQ onto the community gate eventually....

My HOA has myQ at the front gate. I just tap the icon (app) on my iPhone and entry is pretty seamless. Since I have my phone on a mount,no hassles trying to find the remote.

Are there any open connectors near the front bumper for the module like the 3/Y? My Q is worthless for me plus not paying extra hardware+subcription to make it work with my gates. Will this be another forgotten feature for the CT?

Get MyQ, works with my Liftmaster. You don't even have to buy equipment, they'll give it to you for free.
Doesn't it require a monthly fee? Pass on monthly fees to open up my own garage door. Oh and likely have all that data sold too.

Homelink = $350
MyQ garage opener = $27.53 on Amazon
Difference = $322.47
16 years of MyQ = $319.84

There... the difference between getting Homelink put on your current car vs. using MyQ for every car you ever buy for the next 16 years is $2.63.
I'm sure MyQ will treat your coming and going data as sacred too. Yea, pass. Subscription plus data mining is evil to me. YMMV.

Yeah. Same with the electrical power. Screw all that. Manual doors, it is!
Not same. First I have power backup. Second, internet goes out way more in my area than power. YMMV. Also, enjoy them reselling all your open/close door and GPS data from when you engage the app. I'm sure they will treat your data so so well.

And you can always put an opener in the truck for your emergency use.
FYI, the HomeLink button doesn't recycle that fast either.

But, I will guarantee you, no HomeLink in the Cybertruck, complain all you want. Neither the mount nor wiring nor electronics are there.
I think as long as you have too many people apologizing for their decision you are right, but if enough people complain they want a homelink option they will do a 180. Just like they did on the Yoke and they did on the turn stalk in the model Y.

what if MyQ goes out of business. Or changes there subscription model or pricing. Getting into your own house shouldn’t be something you subscribe to, it should be yours to own. Even the more inconvenient thing of getting home and the internet is out, can’t get into your house.

There are a lot of use cases for HomeLink over MyQ.
  • Wifi is Down
  • Power is Down
  • Stopping/reversing the door from opening/closing while in motion
  • MyQ failing to open/close the door
  • MyQ Failing in general.
  • No subscription required
I really like the features of MyQ, but the damn thing won't send the Close command until I'm far down the street. My S used to do it right as I hit the end of my driveway.
Yes, I've adjusted the open/close distance as well as reset the location, but I'm open to any other suggestions.

Shit, I'd take a HomeKit integration, at least that's "free" and more reliable than MyQ for me.
