If the sliding tonneau and roof top can made with solar panel would be even better.the foam is supposed to arrive today. Will update once tested.
not a bad idea...

I was so bothered by light rain waiting at red lights and wiper is swipe at full speed.Tesla auto wipers have sucked since my first Model S in 2016. It's been a consistent complaint and ridiculous considering the fix is a $5 rain sensor standard on every other vehicle.
Anyone remember "Deep Rain", the AI that Elon promised was going to finally fix this all the way back in 2019? Six years later and the problem remains.
I think part of the problem is the cars being designed in dry California as opposed to rainy Seattle.
Me too. Let’s talk about this for a second. Let’s say they offered this as an aftermarket option that adds 5 miles a day when it’s sunny. So not great but still something.Solar PV tonneau![]()
I got the backer rod in. Haven't tested it yet. But it looks promising. Dust might not be able to get in, or at least minimal. Water, might seep down through it if it pools like if it's parked and it's raining. If truck is moving, water might get washed away first by wind before it seeps through... There are gaps at both ends of the top of the tailgate when closed that you can probably add some stick on weather seal, so I don't think it's gonna be 100% water sealed but better than nothing.Let me know if you test this one, its actually a good idea to seal the other end better.
What did you use as the rod?I got the backer rod in. Haven't tested it yet. But it looks promising. Dust might not be able to get in, or at least minimal. Can you drop a photo here showing car door edge protector installed?Car door edge protector and foam backer rod.
You insert that in the removable panel above the tonneau cover where the water gets in. You'll see a weather seal in there but that's not enough, reinforce it with the edge protector. I've tested it and no dust and water got in. I've washed my truck with a pressure washer and offroaded on the dirt roads and nothing got in.
Also, the seal at the end of the tonneau where it touches the tailegate? Insert a 3/8" foam backer rod in the hollow seal. It will tighten the seal between the tonneau and the tailgate when closed. I haven't tested this one but it looks like it would work.
foam backer rod. Large size. Amazon has it.What did you use as the rod?
You may want to put another weather seal under where the edge protectoe would seat to prop it up more. I think without it’s fine. Try it first without the addl seal under. I already have the weather seal in there when I tried the other solution. I didnt remove it when I did the edge protector solution. Can you drop a photo here showing car door edge protector installed?
I get the backer rod, saw that install video
That looks fantastic and may be the first solution I’ve seen that would work with the cybertent and have to remove the aeroflap repeatedly. Has it really substantially improved your waterproofing? You may want to put another weather seal under where the edge protectoe would seat to prop it up more. I think without it’s fine.
