Maybe? But the falcon-wing doors of the X turned out to be way more problematic and complicated than intended. That was probably enough to dissuade them from including them on the CT.

I’ve had those doors since 2016 and despite all the bad PR they have been absolutely bulletproof.
they do occasionally have sensor issues but the mechanism is dead reliable as are the seals.

The DeLorean gullwings are manual. A torsion bar offsets the weight, while a pneumatic piston does the lifting. There are two latches, however, and must be adjusted properly.

The falcon-wings are motorized and articulated. That add parts and complexity, which of course increases cost. I think the CT is pricey enough already.

I don’t hate the idea, but there’s about 20 other things I’d like to see first.

Fair but the ability to open and close all doors from the driver seat is a creature comfort I never thought I needed until we owned an x and let me just tell you, it’s more than just a creature comfort.

Tell me about your experience? Did a somewhat deep dive in the rabbit hole a few months back. How awesome would it be to roll into a car show with a cyber truck towing your DeLorean?

They’re not all that expensive. I’m just out of garage space.

My girlfriend wanted a Mercedes gullwing, but those are about $300k assuming you can find a museum willing to part with theirs. So I said “would you settle for a DeLorean?”

Since this was 25 years ago, the Internet was still pretty new, but I was amazed at the resources I could find. It was the support of vendors and other owners that gave me the confidence to take the leap.

After looking for a few months, I finally found one on eBay of all places; it was nearby and cheap (I think I paid $12k). Of course, the owner had mostly stored it, so most rubber was deteriorating, particularly that in contact with fluid, and I managed to get a flat tire driving it home from Houston. The brakes gave out about 3 blocks from the house.

For weeks, my garage looked like a DeLorean had exploded, and since I hadn’t signed up for a years-long restoration project, I flatbeded it right back to Houston. The premiere DMC shop is there, and I ended up paying them almost as much as I paid for the car lol, but it was worth it. It was in great running condition, and I drove it all the time.

Of course, now it’s 45 years old, and could use a bunch of maintenance again. But I’ve got this sweet truck, so it languishes in the garage.

I still drove it to delivery day, though.

if this Delorean owner have lots of disposal income may be -if not that's tons of emotional attachment. I know so many people complain of not having enough money but purchase collector vehicles-keep spending more money fixing, fixing & fixing-what a waste.

Nah man it’s his hobby and then he sells them. It’s his passion.

The DeLorean stainless is brushed horizontally, making it easy to blend-in scratches and scuffs. They initially used machines for the finish, but it looked too “perfect” and they instead brushed them by hand.

I wonder why they went with orbital for CT? I like the brushed look…but maybe I wouldn’t IRL, I dunno…

You can apply any finish texture you want over the factory finish. Just know that the Cybertruck steel is much harder than the DeLorean steel. So it might be difficult to get the brushed finish to take as deeply.

Do you know what they used to brush the DeLoreans by hand? Was it a hardened steel brush?
