My understanding, two leaking areas and how to remediate as seems the 2026s still have the issue:
1. top, aero cap, use 1/8 backer in the middle and use 1/4, each end, where the gap is bigger
2. tonneau, tailgate gasket, fill from the side 3/8s backer to increase the crush strength of the gasket
we've seen videos for the aero cap remediation and tailgate gasket remediation
i have the supplies, waiting for nice warm weather to do both remediations and test

Can the tonneau cover be made waterproof? is the question I pose.
we just went through a rainstorm that was a few days long here in Los Angeles with reports of flooding in some parts
it even dropped a little hail and at some point, my backyard was under 2" of water
A lot of water came down so yesterday I'm doing some clean up.
open up my truck bed with my tools inside. and it's always fun to find your tools are under water and the toolbox is completely full of water. the moving blanket is also completely drenched. it was all dry when I put them in my truck under a cover.
I mean this kind of defeats the purpous right ?
is there a soulution?
Your cover could be missing the first/last slat that seals to the passenger compartment- mine was missing. Tesla will install under warranty.

Even if it is in place, the water intrusion is terrible. There is some on this forum - who have a DIY to add a better rubber seal to the passenger compartment and the cover start to the roof.

I too had and entire tool bag rain soaked, and had to soak the tools in WD40 and wire brush them back to life. I think my Milwaukee battery survived.

Also, parking backed on a sloped driveway - to access the home charging - makes the rake angle of the cover nearly flat - which make rain intrusion worse when it's parked in your driveway.

The is a wide variety of opinions on this forum about this - subtle and bizarre.
  • As if you expect a cover to actually protect the volume it is it covering?
  • As if rain is such random occurrence that the cargo bed cover design should not provide for?
  • What cover do you put over the cover to protect the cargo bed from rain?

Installation is as easy as it looks? If so, that's a way better solution.
Yeah, nothing to remove or glue just cut peel and stick. It is really low profile and looks factory done. Take your time to get it straight and don't stretch it.

I just had the tonneau rework done, my cover barely leaks on the back trim now. I am planning on doing the weatherstripping to further seal.

Glad to hear the tonneau might be trending toward less leaky but the FDU chirping noise can take a few thousand miles to show up, in my experience.

The pictures on Amazon make it look larger. I'd say it's about 1/2" wide. They give you a lot.
how far to the sides did you go on it?
