Our angle doesn't let us see how much intrusion into the cabin there is.

Remember, the doors have a cavity to absorb this.

Also, the fact that the metal remains in a sheet would leave the other vehicle more recognizable as there's no tearing and intermixture of parts. The doors are acting like a blanket, catching the intruding structures.

It made it into the cabin

I am wondering the speed and what a mere mortal vehicle would look like in the same situation.
And the windows just fell out. I guess that is typical with frameless windows?

While this is terrible and I hope the best for all involved I think the Cybertruck fared quite well. Why?
  • B pillar still looks largely intact
  • Doors did not shear off, split or anything else - they absorbed energy like they should
  • Floorpan and battery tray look unblemished, which is crazy
  • Surrounding structures around the door appear largely intact - front and rear quarter panel look factory fresh
Oh, and I don't even know what the other vehicle is. No way that one comes back at all while it appears the Cybertruck would still be driveable and might just need two new doors (I'm sure the B pillar damage is more severe than appears). For taking a high-speed shot in the side, that's impressive.

That looks like a piece of the Toyota stuck to the Cybertruck.
The top piece is, and it's "clipped" into the bottom sill of the door opening.

There is no anti-intrusion bar in the door to prevent this exact scenario, unfortunately.

Tow truck picture w shadows helps to show it more.

It's in there probably to the seats.

What the pictures tell me (as @carsly also pointed out), the B-Pillar is mostly intact with this accident showing proof of it's strength, because it actually cut into the center of the impacting vehicle imprinting a 'V' shape (right image). The uni-body rails of the impacting car were what likely pushed the door panels in on each side of the B-Pillar but they still held up fairly well IMO, resulting in an 'M' shaped impression in the side of the Cybertruck:

I hope the repeater or side camera videos can be retrieved and posted, because even with limited field of view just before impact, an analysis of movement for the approaching vehicle frame to frame, will likely give a fairly accurate indication of how fast it was going (if enough frames were sampled of the approach and impact).

Regardless I think it already speaks volumes on the safety benefits for occupants in a Cybertruck.

In an attempt to reframe the conversation before a Reuters "journalist" picks up this thread and takes our observations without attribution - remember that part of journalism school? No? - I think about this way:

If you had to have been in one of the two vehicles involved, which would you prefer to have been in if your life depended on it?
