Question: How many owners still worry about door dings?

Even though door dings are impossible on the Cybertruck, at least in any normal sense of the word "door ding", how many are having trouble coming to terms with the fact that other drivers will not be damaging your doors in tight parking areas?

I find it liberating to not have to worry and I kick my door panels regularly, to revel in this new reality, especially when I have my boots on (because then it doesn't hurt my toes).

Never has any consumer vehicle been this resistant to damage, and it is fascinating how this has progressed. Through the decades truck doors became increasingly prone to impact damage. With the release of a single new truck model, the Cybertruck, the trend didn't just reverse, the Cybertruck is more damage resistant than the toughest trucks of my youth. And the difference is not a small incremental one, it's like 10X or more.

It is liberating but I’m still skeptical. Plenty of videos of panels being shot at, kicked, etc, but are there any real world tests showing heavy doors with concentrated, vertical force being slammed against the panel or trim, or, deep key scratches?

On one hand it feels invincible but on another, here we are obsessing over fingerprints.

It is nice not having to even think twice about curbing the rims.

I am NOT worried about dings or scratches at all on the metal. Sure, it’s possible, but the panels are really damn hard! Someone would have to hit it really hard to try to damage it. This is really nice because I can park and walk away in peace. I could never do that with my Model X. I would be worried of a ding if I parked too close.

I AM worried about my kids opening the truck doors and denting other cars! The doors are heavy and if shoved hard enough, could definitely damage other cars. That said, the “door check” works really well and is well calibrated for a heavy door (harder to push past), so my kids have not had this issue.

Great point, and especially a concern with the younger kids. Another video I’d like to see is just how much damage it inflicts.

Dings and scratches are inevitable. Nothing is impervious. I hope not to see a rash of deliberate attempts, obviously diamonds and carbide tools will do the trick, pretty common.

I find that folks avoid me when I park. I'll park between two cars at Target to come out and find both sides empty in a fairly busy lot. Could be the CTs width, so no one wants to squeeze in? IDK, no door ding attempts yet, or that I know of.

I watched a TesBros video of the installation of a rear camera washer system yesterday on YT. This involves drilling a small hole into the rear bed door on the CT for the squirter assembly.

Based on what they had to go through to purposely drill a hole in the CT (it was by far the most difficult part of the installation) I suspect that CT dings will be very rare indeed. A truly HUGE amount of force will be required.

CT scratches will be inevitable, but should be something you can sand out fairly easily. This is the one major disadvantage to a wrap (wraps will still be damaged by door strikes, etc.) although I still intend to wrap mine.

Worth a watch if you are interested in this topic.

I found the video, and you're not kidding! He had a hell of a time just drilling a small hole through it, using a cobalt HSS bit. Here's a time-stamped link to the drilling challenge:

I get a little nervous parking in crowded lots now but I think it’s just the phase of having a new car. I’d be more worried about some maniac vandalizing my truck with spray paint or something but since picking up my truck a week ago, I’ve only met friendly people just wanting to see the truck up close.

I don't worry about door dings, I now just worry about paint i'll have to clean off the truck. Also my mother in law is notorious for swinging the doors wide open when she gets in or out, so that's a worry for me when parking. I have to give her all the space in the parking spots.

I haven't seen a door ding transfer paint onto the Cybertruck yet (oh, the horrors, paint on my bare metal Cybertruck) but I'm pretty sure it would easy to rub off.

I'm getting more impressed with the way the Cybertruck shrugs off body damage every week I own it.

I flung open the driver's door at my coffee shop, and slammed it into the wrought-iron outdoor furniture that I'd overlooked. Oh no!

Knocked over the chair and everything. Not a scratch lol

I imagine the coffee shop patrons sitting around gave you a wide berth after that! ?

Oh no, here comes that madman who doesn't give a crap about damaging his Cybertruck! Oh, wait, it's not even scratched!

I still park it away from people just because of the sheer size.
