Yesterday I was about to Supercharge after getting the 2024.20.7 update the night before which includes improvements to DC Fast Charging. I went back over my previous Supercharging sessions from prior software versions and found the closet comparison I could find at a V3 charger with as close as starting SoC levels as possible. Without further ado here is the plot of both sessions:

Tesla Cybertruck 2024.20.7 V3 Supercharging Curve Comparison Tested (w/ Improved DC Fast Charging Update) 1720103041593-18

The 2024.20.7 curve overall is improved throughout most of the charge curve except from 13%-28% or so. I believe this was due to charge handle temperature as the stall I selected had a hot to the touch handle, which for comparison purposes I am going to assume was just used prior to my arrival so it was already hotter than ideal as I began charging. I didn't bring a rag and water with me to try to charging handle cooling trick as I wanted to test with as few variables as possible and no hacks to simulate what the average person would see. As you can see, in the curve the charge rate began to recover from the initial dip around 20% SoC and it continue to slowly climb till around the 35% SoC point. I need to retest under better conditions to see if the rapid drop in charge rate was indeed due to handle temps and not some other charge logic changes attempting to manage thermals which reduces peak charge rates in exchange for overall faster charge levels when averaged across the charging session.

I was able to add ~120miles in 15 minutes which is not close to the 154 miles in 15 minutes which has been touted on Twitter:

I did not arrive at an extremely low SoC and had what I believe to be a potential charging limit caused by the charging station and not the truck itself. I will try to redo the testing and see if I can do a better comparison, but for now I wanted to get this out to share with everyone. I don't have any of the required CCS adapters to try 1000V 350kW charging stations, so I'll leave that testing to others till there are native NACS 1000V chargers near me.

Holding till 30% is an improvement. Previously it would drop fast starting at about 25%

Newbie pregunta aqui...

How do you "record the curve"?

Is that on-board CT software suite? Additional app?

I'll probably supercharge late tonight and take note of the "everyday Joe" data vs you hypernerds parsing it out to the .00000001%.

?

I’ve had 250kw up to around 30% before this update.

Did you session start pretty close to 30%? I have found a session or two that shows the same thing, but the sessions started at close to 30% to begin with such as the sessions started below. When starting lower, I’ve seen the rate drop faster and sooner than 30%

I use a couple of third party services to monitor all my Teslas. I use both Teslafi.com and Teslascope.com. There are other tools such as Tessie as well. They all rely on Tesla API to poll the vehicle and gather data.

Good point, yeah looks like I had only charged 1kwh at that point.

the cooling rag on the handle shouldn't make a difference for V3 chargers as they are already liquid cooled internally. Definitely makes a big difference if you are in hot weather and are using a V1 and not sharing with a paired stall

There is a lot of talk about the limitation of the handle and cable recently. Kyle/OoS has done a variety of testing. Branden (below) is in the charger/charing industry.

Supercharging tonight to 80%:

- Drove ~7mi to station pre-conditioning battery (85 degrees ambient temp)
- Arrived at 15% SoC
- Stalls almost full...someone next to me in M3
- Hovering around 90kW input/213 mi/hr
- 15%-22% in 5min
- M3 departed at 26% SoC....no vehicles on either side of me
-- 130 kW input/332 mi/hr
- Now someone pulling next to me, Tesla gods have forsaken me
-- I shout I have a pitbull with rabies and AIDS, Tesla vet scoffs at me and says,"nice try"...I am defeated
-- He plugs in [bastard!!] but no impact on my stats...I did sacrifice a chicken to appease Tesla gods
- 15%-34% in 10 mins
-- 149 kW input/384 mi/hr
- 15%-43% in 15 mins
-- 153 kW input/395 mi/hr
- 15%-53% in 20 mins
-- 141 kW input/360 mi/hr
- 15%-61% in 25 mins
-- 108 kW input/275 mi/hr
-- Stalls almost full again...I'm getting another chicken
- 15%-68% in 30 mins
-- 90 kW imput/230 mi/hr
-- No one on either side if me now
- 15%-74% in 35 mins
-- 89 kW input/230 mi/hr
-15%-80% in 39 mins 41 secs
-- Prior to software update this took ~45+mins (and probably higher charge rates too?)

WDYT?

@PaulConner sounds like your pack wasn't up to temp when you began your Supercharging session. Looks like it got there (~120f) during the middle of your session. Be interesting to see what you would get in the same scenario with a hot pack upon arrival.

Great post! Keep those sacrificial chickens handy!

Interesting. I've not known about that.

Is it something where the screen tells you "pre-conditioning complete" or something similar?
