I was just discussing with my wife my concerns about getting stuck in CT during an emergency. We ran into issues already where doors wouldn’t open.

looks like something similar happened the other day, and the person died.

What do you all think? Should be an easier way to exit in case of emergency.

All four doors have manual release mechanisms.

Yeah I’ve gone through the manual/emergency open. It is not easy to do in an emergency, when seconds matter.

Also my manual “pull” only works on my door half the time when I was testing. It’s really weird it’s like it’s not setup correctly. Idk if that’s limited to my model or is more widespread though. Hopefully they get this fixed for future productions. Major safety issue.

I was looking through more pics. It’s like it burst into flames. Incredibly strange. Entire frame looks melted. Nothing nearby that would explain it. Maybe battery exploded? Who knows.

Well, any EV fire is going to be different than an ICE fire... because EV batteries take a significantly more effort and time to extinguish. All that in a steel box... RIP to our comrade, the driver.

Image search “Tesla fire” to see examples of unfettered thermal runaway. The residual slag is scarcely recognizable.

If Telsa doesn't already do this, they should have buyers sign-off during the sales paperwork stating they fully understand how to activate the emergency exit mechanism

It's a nice idea, but it's likely that they'll read it as often as people read the release statements on software and electronics. Did you know that smoking near an Apple device voids the warranty?

Your troll post is pure FUD. You can die in any car, better not leave the house, lock the doors or the boogy man will get you. Teslas are the safest vehicles on the road. How many people died in F150's last year?

The rear emergency release needs to be obscured from children, since it cannot be overridden. Otherwise, the child locks are useless.

In most other cars, if the child locks are enabled, the door cannot be opened from the inside at all.

Hadn't really thought about the whole kid door side of things. So in non-Teslas if you leave your kid doors on by mistake the rear passengers are trapped.


Regardless, no evidence the driver was even conscious after the accident in this case. My bet is very high speeds and alcohol were involved

You bring up a good point, I had not considered this. I don’t have kids but do have families children in car with me from time to time.

I can’t test right now, but you’re saying the release still works even if child locks are on? This isn’t really an issue for me but curious for the sake of others.
