Per Elon:

“That’s pretty much what it [the Cybertruck] will look like, with very small differences. You know, we adjusted the size a few percent. Like around 3% or smaller. You don’t want it to be a couple of inches too big for the Boring tunnel,” said Musk.

He confirmed that it would be 3% smaller. The main reason for the change was because it can't fit in the Boring Tunnel. Citing that the test drive through with Jay Leno was too "hair raising".

I have heard his name before but never watched any of this stuff. Is his deal that he brings in a guest as an audience and then just goes adlib about anything while the guest gets uncomfortable? ?

Anyway, CT being too big for the boring tunnel seems like a really bad reason. Is the Boring Company really trying to get all these big tunneling jobs without being able to adjust the size of the tunnel they offer? Was the test tunnel perfect and the limiting factor for all their designs now? I’m sure there were other reasons for the shrinkage. One reason could be to make it just a notch closer to a world truck as they’re usually smaller elsewhere, while still keeping essential bed size etc. Another could be to fit inside a typical (full size) garage. Or maybe there was some “wasted” space in the 3% bigger one. Maybe wind tunnel testing dictated resizing? Is it more proportional design-wise now? I don’t know but that just sounded like a good anecdote, like the one about him ordering the rockets to be more pointy because of a movie.

Nice to get some new info though. Thanks!

There is nothing there that we hadn’t heard before (sorry, I only read the synopsis because I only got advertisements on Spotify and bailed after the 4th one began). No one k ew the final Model Y specs until after they started getting delivered so I will be surprised if we hear much of anything before next year about this time. It sucks, but that seems to be the Tesla way.

Part of their ability to make these deals is that smaller tunnels have less structure required. Which means smaller machines that can dig more quickly. Encapsulated EVs mean smaller, more independent tunnels with less support systems required.

You may be right. First he said it is going to be smaller, then he said no we keep the size the same. Now it is smaller again. The fact that his favorite is model S tells me we should keep our expectations low.

He was vague on range, saying at least 300 miles with no mention of the 500+, which wasn't encouraging. He threw cold water on the solar option too...I don't care about that, but some did. And it makes some of the launch night claims seem a bit like fantasy. I'm sure it will be awesome, but it wasn't the most uplifting interview.

300 is the range of the Dual Motor. That explains why he'd mention it.

Most important! We can come pick up the pickup! And he pretty much confirmed dual motor was initial production model.
Do you think pick up option has influence on your wait time?
