I recommend 3M ceramic tinting only. Many brands of tint can overheat any window. The same thing goes for high-rise condos.
I got that and glad to hear that’s the good one to not break ? I didn’t no

I tell you all this, with the standard roof no tint, I can’t tell the difference in my car without the tint vs. Having the extra 98% UV protection. It’s unn
For people worried about warranty regarding if you tint it , anyone ever heard of peeling it off before going for your service appointment ? ?
It was peeled off before of course but they still tried to say something impacted it until I requested their “tech” to confirm no impact marks. It was the tint for sure but the case in point is that it is not necessary to tint it and at some point Tesla may not warranty since they can’t confirm tint or not. I do not either see or feel a difference in my truck without the tint and I tinted the windows day 2 of getting the truck. But you do you fella!!

Ok poluka
, well mine is already tinted punchy so I guess I will have to cross that bridge if I have too. Tinting my front windshield on my M3 10000 % changed the game so with the size of the CT windshield I did 70% also. I guess if it breaks it breaks, I find it interesting that if they see no tint and your car is under warranty with no impact mark how they could refuse covering it under warranty but I’m sure that’s always going to be there first line of defense. Thanks for the info chief

I’m sitting at a Tesla charging station in 81 degree temps of beautiful Southern California. I hear a loud weird crackling noise. After looking around, I look up to see this… Multiple cracks!!
Anyone else?? Now I have to worry about it cracking in while I drive to the SC. Still spreading as I sit here charging so I can get to the SC.

Was there any possibility of something else hitting it externally?

Absolutely not. I was sitting in the truck charging as it happened. They couldn’t find any impact marks which odd why they ended up removing the $2k charge and replacing the roof.

Nice, did they give you a reason why it happened?

First off, I’ll leave the name I was about to use out of it because I realize you really have no idea of the entire post here. Your windshield is fine to tint any freaking darkness and paper type you want, why, because it is a single pane windshield. The problem with the roof and tinting with paper that reflects a certain amount of UV percentage is that it only reflects that heat to the second (outer pane) of its duel pane. THAT’S THE PROBLEM. If your tint is cheap or non UV reflective, you have no problem. If you have a good tint and was well intentioned to try to deflect heat from your interior, be ready to replace the roof after paying to remove the tint. Period! I’m not posting this to have you remove your tint, or scare/worry you. I can care less what you do. I’ve had my truck since March newbie!! Take my advice or leave it Jack ass!! Sorry I could only hold back for so long. This is a place to help folks out so don’t come in here with your bs.

No, but I know why. It was helpful that they told me there was no history of the glass cracking. Not a defect from manufacturing. Just do not tint or at least do not use UV protected tint. It obviously reflects back to the outer roofs duel pane Which is what cracked!!

Yes, you are correct. I did not read through the entire post as I should have. It’s my fault, but I appreciate that you spelled it out in your own words and your feelings. Thank you

Noticeably absent from the CT tint packages is the windshield….so questions remain with respect to warranty coverage of a cracked windshield that has been tinted.
To refuse a warranty claim, legally, the onus is on the guarantor to prove the modification caused the damage.

Instead of tinting the roof with ceramic tint. I went with Legends tinted ppf on the exterior of the roof. You get all the tinted glass benefits in addition to the exterior protection.
Also because it is installed exterior, no issues of thermal cracking.

That’s an excellent idea. Thank you for posting that.
