Once Tesla announces the real price for the Cybertruck after the Foundation Series is over in a couple months. I think it will be more than expected and the prices for our "used" AWD will go up

Hey everyone,

I’m facing a bit of a dilemma and could use some advice from the community.

I recently received a VIN for my new Cyberbeast order, but when I tried to trade in my current Cybertruck (delivered in March 2024), Tesla informed me that they wouldn't accept it as a trade-in. This leaves me in a tough spot, as I don't plan on owning two Cybertrucks and need to figure out how to proceed.

To make matters worse, I’ve tried reaching out to Tesla multiple times through their messaging system for guidance, but I haven’t received any response regarding this specific issue. Has anyone else encountered this or found a way around it?

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know how to obtain the necessary documentation to sell the Cybertruck privately?

I would appreciate any guidance or advice from those who've dealt with something similar.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok. These are the numbers - Carmax $11; Carvana $12.2; and Givenethevin.com $10.5. I’ll call you.

WOW, is that bad the re-sale market on these cars? They destroyed it by making too many too fast!
You ain't seen nothing yet!

Tesla is going to make a lot more than legacy auto wants them to. Remember, the goal is to displace gas and diesel trucks and SUV's, and Tesla is going to have the best-selling EV pickup this year. It won't even be close. It will make the Hummer Pickup, the Lightning F-150, the Chevy Silverado and the GM Sierra all look like bad science experiments.

The resale value of used Cybertrucks will remain strong, relative to ICE pickups, because new demand will outpace supply. Sure, they are going to take a resale hit, all pickups do when you drive them off the lot, but the Cybertruck will likely take a smaller hit than their ICE counterparts.

The latest and greatest always sells well on the used market.

A month ago I was in the SC and asked them about trading in my AWD for a CB. They told me to talk to the sales person so I did. She didn't know and said they would call me back.
I'm still waiting for the call about it....
This is standard procedure for Tesla in my experience. I have been told I would be called back no less than 5 times when dealing issues/questions about with my Y and CT. No calls backs ever. I resolved my issues by calling back myself.

I wonder if its an inside joke to them.
"Just tell them you will call them back and they magically go away! teehee!" - How I imagine Tesla Employees

That's good feedback; I will try a CarMax-type company, for example, to see if they will take the car!
I am sure if you want to take the 30% hit that a trade will evoke, there is probably a member here that would save you the trouble.

You offered to sell it to them, they declined.
You have fulfilled your obligation to give them the "right of first refusal".....at this point you can sell it anywhere.....

The last M3 I asked about a trade in Tesla offered way way less then someone like carvana or a carmax. They really don’t give the best trade in values anyway so I would try some where ells or I’m sure it would be easy to sell as long as you ask the price you paid and not $160k like some these people

Even if they would consider a trade in, the values offered are about half what you can sell private party. I tried trading in my 2021 Model S long range with 30k miles and they offered me 32,000 which I declined. PP values are about 49k. I noted that they seem to only accept black Tesla’s trade ins if you look at their used cars online, .. hopefully you will find a willing buyer for your truck at a fair price. Good luck and enjoy your new Beast!

Once Tesla announces the real price for the Cybertruck after the Foundation Series is over in a couple months. I think it will be more than expected and the prices for our "used" AWD will go up
Current expectation is that cybertruck AWD will go for just under 80k to get the fed tax incentive of 7.5k, so that drops the CT AWD to about 73k, and lower in some states like Colorado.
But, you’re suggesting a scenario where the non-foundation AWD will be over 80k, and that’s an interesting proposal, but even at 85k, it’s still not going to increase the value of my 100k AWD CT, unless you’re suggesting FSD is going to be worth > 15k.
Folk are not going to pay top dollar for the foundation badge - right?
Or, maybe (and this is one reason I took the 30k hit to get it now), is that once foundation is over, the queue becomes real. And as folk realize 2 years is really the current wait time, then used market might be higher than the new price because of the “get it now” factor. This certainly happened with the model 3. It sure is going to be an interesting 2025 as they ramp production and nail the production quality.

If the Longshoremen strike is lengthy Tesla might be forced to halt Cybertruck production due to lack of parts from worldwide suppliers.

Tesla offering you $32k for your 30k mile 2021 Model S isn’t low ball, it’s subterranean.
