Hey group, just wanted to share some information on my recent problems after a front motor replacement incase anyone else experiences this.

Prior information:
- I originally received my Cyberbeast back in May.
- I experienced the same growling sound and feedback in the front motor that many others have.
- Tesla replaced the front motor in August.

Since the new front motor has been installed, the original growling sound and feedback is virtually non existent. On the flip side some new issues have appeared...
- When going through a load shift (coming almost to a stop and then starting to accelerate) you can feel the front motor engaging and also an audible thump.
- While driving, if you accelerate at any time, any speed, you can hear a clicking sound in the front right of the passenger footwell.
- This one is not reproducible. Occasionally when the truck is cold and regen braking to the first stop, you can hear three loud thumps.

I scheduled a service appointment and the truck is currently there. They said they are replacing the front axles and that those are the cause of these issues.

During this service appointment they are also handling both recall items (wiper motor and sails)

Sounds like the CT version of the front halfshaft issues that have plagued Model S and X since inception. Not terribly surprising given the range of suspension travel of CT across the different drive modes far exceeds that of S/X but you'd think they would have figured this one out after, what, 12 years?

Did you get these issues resolved? I took delivery Nov 1 and have a clicking in the front area. Mine is reproducible at 45-55mph. Tech on a drive didn’t know yet but I have an appt Dec 9.

Yes this was resolved. I would say though with the new front motor the axle shaft is longer on the passenger side. So you can always hear some noise when it goes under load.

Good to hear. I’ve driven others and no noise like mine so really curious what it ends up being. Feel like it’s the half shaft or motor, but will see.

I am not sure if you’re familiar with an ICE car and when the motor mounts are loose or broken. But I would say mine had a similar feel and sound to that

Sorry to bring up an old thread but is this the sound you’re taking about? Mine started doing this on a left turn.

Just had mine fixed for this exact issue. It's been going on for months and only really made a the noise going down parking ramp spirals. After awhile it started doing the noise on both left and right turns. VIN 66XX. Axle Shafts.

Had this done twice on our 2020 X over 56,000 miles. The root of these issues is the CV joints used are the same that have been used forever in vehicles. They are simply not designed to handle the torque electric motors can put out at some of the angles they experience.

Thanks! I’ll give it another try at the service center. I took it in last week and they said they were not able to replicate the sound even though I uploaded the video in the app and they didn’t do anything but retighten the front-end undercarriage bolts to spec. VIN 56XX. Going back in on Friday for a windshield that’s delaminating between the layers.

Have them go out with you. I had a tech who drove with me and couldn't reproduce it until I explained exactly how it happens. Slow tight turns and letting off the accelerator.

Initially, I don't think they believed me. But after the tech heard the sound he opened up a bit and by the sound of it, they've been dealing with a lot of nit picky jerks who are making unreasonable repair requests and have been incredibly impatient. So I can understand some techs being skeptical. As with anyone, especially Tesla employees, we need to show some respect and patience. They're the ones helping us accelerate the world's transition to a sustainable energy future.
