Off gassing still happening after 10K miles

Well if it is the same as a Model T why don’t I have off gassing in my new MY? I believe they used different materials. Especially in the bed where the off gassing has been the worst

Every vehicle off-gasses to some extent. That's what the "new car smell" is. It's just more prevalent in some vehicles, depending of the materials in use.

I’m sorry but if this is the “new” car smell it’s the worst I have ever experienced. The “new car smell” smells toxic. Other cars
May have a smell but it doesn’t smell toxic like my CT bed and storage area in the bed

Here's my camera. It appears really bad. Is there really no way to remove the housing cover to DIY clean it? Is this worth a service appointment?

It looks like there are two fingerprints right in the middle too.

That cover is fairly easy to remove (and it’s not sealed against the windshield at all).

But…there are two little tabs on the “glare shield” (the part that you can see from outside the CT) that are REALLY easy to break off.

Ask me how I know, haha!!

Luckily my SC was nice enough to install the new glare shield at no labor charge when my CT was in for wiper motor/sail appliqués.

I saw in the service manual somewhere a “main camera fan”. I believe there is forced airflow under the glare shield to cool the camera, and the additional airflow is probably mucking up the glass faster.

On days I don’t drive, I activate Biohazard Mode for a few minutes from the app to clean the air. I also got a USB-powered mini HEPA filter, but of course the USB ports shut off when the truck sleeps. I’ve no idea if either does any good.

What is off gassing

Plastics in new cars will release what they call “off gassing” and create a foggy film on the glass. Especially on hot days. Goes away over time. I’m sure an expert on the forum will have a better more scientific explanation than this.

What was your recall for? Did they charge for the cleaning procedure?

I wonder if an ozone generator would help. We used them in the hospitality industry to remove just about any smell.
