I use my CT as a daily driver, have loaded it up for college freshman dropoff (obligatory picture below), filled it with bags of salt and treat it like any other SUV I've ever owned - it has to earn it's keep. It's been an incredible four+ months and 3,000+ miles averaging nearly 3 mi/kwh (336 Wh/mi if you prefer) but here are a few improvements I'd like to see after living with it every day:. In no particular order
- A lower "low" mode. This thing looks badass dropped down, I'd like to drive it in entry mode if I could.
- WTF is up with the open front center console? It's completely useless space between the driver's and passengers footwells. The best use case I've got is putting a tray of drinks and driving very, very, carefully. Maybe you could put one book there. What else? Why not staple nets to the sides or, better, yet, seal it up and turn it into a proper center console like we've got in the Model S or X. Plenty of secured storage, more cubbies and higher utility. This is...wasteful.
- Rear seat wireless chargers in armrest. Seriously, one of the hidden perks of the Model S refresh from way back in 2021 was the two wireless charging pads that were in the center fold/down armrest in the back seat. No wires, plugs, dongles. Just fold down the armrest and place your phone like a civiled front-seat occupant.
- Speaking of wireless charging, the pad in the Model S I owned previously had an air vent just above the phones and my phones never once got overly warm or overheated. The wireless charger design here with zero ventilation feels like a major step backward. Why Wes, why?
- A track-like wheel, tire and brake package. Look, Australian utes are not for everyone, I get it. But the Cybertruck is 90% of the way there. Drop it down, beef up the brakes, increase wheel sizes and put Pilot Sport 4S's on them and take the monster to the track. We're so very close.
- I saved this for last. What I really want is a Cyber-SUV. Not a Model X minivan claiming to be an SUV but a proper third row and enclosed trunk instead of the truck bed. It would be Tesla's Escalade, Yukon, Mercedes GLS, BMW X7 or Land Rover Defender 130 destroyer. tesla has historically built two passenger vehicles per chassis - S/X, 3/Y - so how about the CyberSUV? If Rivian can do it with the R1S and R1T I know Tesla can pull it off and it would be magnificent.
