I mentioned it a few times, I've got heated lights for my jeep. They're amazing. they don't get super hot, just warm enough to melt snow.

But someone pointed out the bumper works as a shelf to collect snow as well. At speed, I'm not sure if that's still true or not, but it would need to be investigated before any product could be made. Just heating the lights if the 4" deep front bumper still acts as a shelf to collect snow won't help. Plus, if someone did make replacement lights, the install would be a nightmare. Solutions that go on top of the existing lights are probably not super likely. Just going by the fact that nobody ever made something like that for jeeps (which have the most amount of money spent on aftermarket accessories per vehicle).

I hope I'm wrong, but the same sentiment that exists here exists on jeep forums. Everything is perfect how it is. If you don't like it, the problem is you. "It's a jeep thing". And so it took years for these solutions to come out. and even then, the options are limited.

t’s not the forward facing issue that is the concern. That’s normal. It’s the recession that is unique and looks like it would pose a problem. And people are saying it does just that. It looks like it will fill with snow pack and not just coat with ice like a normal front facing light. Once cleared I’ve never had an issue getting coated by snow on a front facing light while driving, inky in freezing rain/ice storms. But with the CT if slush and snow kicking up in front of you packs in that open cavity in front of the led’s, that’s the problem and 100% isn’t going to happen to a light bar.
This is more of what I’m curious about. I’ve driven a variety of vehicles. Including a snow plow. Yeah, there are times I’ve wiped off snow with my hand, I do that on my Model Y, like others have said. It’s good to hear Jeep owners experiences because I was looking at a Gladiator before my Model Y, eventual Cybertruck.

Chris (DirtyTesla) is pretty unbiased and fair in my experience. If you have 2 minutes, starting at 6:40 (link should take you there), this is from last winter.
He even did a little test to see if the area was heated (it’s not).

There’s a post from last winter, where someone was in the mountains dealing with a storm. It wasn’t the safest to stop and clean the lights that drive. (If I find it I’ll add it, it was interesting.)

I like the idea mentioned earlier that maybe we can install something that brings the area flush with the frunk. That’s my concern and I feel like a possible solution. Yes, in heavy snow, I’ve had to wipe off my ‘96 Dodge Ram headlights, but that wasn’t a regular thing. It did also accumulate on the bumper like I see here.

Basically, something to make it less of a possible issue. I don’t know if it can be eliminated.

other than that the truck performed flawlessly on the snowy/icy roads!

I’ve had to mechanically remove snow ice frozen slush from many of vehicles, I don’t think this is unique to CT. If the vehicle has sat in the snow overnight, I guess brush it off like any other vehicle. If it gets all frozen slush while driving - my first thought is to chemically de-ice it with isopropyl alcohol in a pump up weed sprayer- if you can warm the fluid up, even better.

I might even put regular ole green anti-freeze in another sprayer and spray it all over the front. The reduced airflow in the area might help it stick around longer. I’m no chemist but I might try and find something that can thicken up the fluid to help it absorb and repel snow.

The above chemical are very close to what airplanes use during freezing and snowy conditions to remove and prevent frozen contamination

The heating film could just be put on the bumper in front of it...

...or be on a lens that covered that part of the bumper as well. Like snow goggles for the truck ^-^

Here’s the original post I was thinking of. Unfortunately the Reddit thread is private now, but there was more discussion about how driving through this area in the heavy snow, wasn’t as safe to stop and wipe off the lights. If I remember correctly.

This isn’t a regular thing around here by any means. But an example I can give from Ohio is I-77, near the snowbelt, where there isn’t really a shoulder along the highway for some sections. Tricky place to stop in rough weather.

I’m excited for more real world thoughts from everyone and hopefully it’s not too bad! ?

Dude .. we are all anonymous here. People with winter experience know headlights can ice under certain conditions.. nothing controversial about what I posted.

To think, this is old tech for our back rear windshield way back when.

I was given an advise by a ranger in Yosemite
to put my tire chains in front for my 4x4 when driving in hard snow and icy conditions on the road.

After some scary downhill driving earlier where my truck is going to where I don't want it to be, his advise indeed made sense.

I have doing it since except for new snow where I don't even have to engage my 4x4 and it's just in compliance to CHP.

Unsure you can put the chains safely in the front. I know on some other Teslas the control arm and knuckle appeared to be in the way. You dont want your chain caught on anything mechanical. I cant say this for certain but it'd be something to explore before chaining up your front wheels. Cheers,

Thanks! I use a self-tightening tire chains that's snug with nothing extra dangles, lol.

Learned lessons when my earlier chain models were not set up properly. My fault being too lazy to put in the tighteners reasoning short travel requiring chains. Good it was just the difficulty of removing it and did not damage any mechanical parts nor the brake fluid tubes.
