I don't think the Giga Press is something you install in one place then relocate. I seem to recall when they put the first one in, they installed it then built the building around it.

That's true. But it's not exactly required for the demo layout of the assembly line.

I agree the press wouldn't be there first, but you can ship the Austin casts to fremont for builds. I think this dynamic build strategy can work, especially if you can schedule to build the parts of Austin that you need first. Like for the press. Non-sequential construction again.

If Tesla's engineers had a perfect track record with this stuff, I'd be a lot more excited.

The last few times Tesla experimented with openers it's been a mixed bag. The handles on the Model S which went through quite a few iterations before they got it quite right. Likewise the Falcon Wing doors which leaked and had other issues.

Trick handles are neat for show cars. I want something I can take out to the woods and not have to stress about failing on me.

It probably costs $100 less to manufacture, weighs 8 pounds less, and reduces drag by a tiny amount.

Yea, if unproven standard tech makes you more comfortable, I suggest you get the Ford 150 and skip anything from Tesla.

Are these consecutively or concurrently actionable? I believe concurrently can be achieved and other predecessor milestones are pending for the CT.

If they were going with door handles, they wouldn't be punching them out. They would most likely use a more appropriate method like waterjet, which doesn't deform the parent material. Alas, pointless discussion!

The early DeLoreans had a little cutout flap in the hood, over the gas filler, at the bottom of the windshield. They were later omitted, because stainless is not as malleable as regular steel, and punching them out was causing too many hoods to crack. None of the hoods that shipped with the flap look deformed or misshapen. And of course, the doors and fenders have holes punched out for handles, lights, etc.

I don't have the hood flap anymore, so I must open the whole frunk when fueling. ("Dude, why are you putting gas into your washer fluid")

That would be some extremely expensive tooling for a few thousand units before the big 8000 pound press is ready.

I mean I assume tooling on the Giga Press is pretty expensive.

I think that was the intention anyway to have MY first? Same in Berlin. But don't forget they already know how to build M3 and its derivative MY, so building them is mostly a known quantity. Except for the structural 4680 pack and the castings, both of which we know are being test run in Austin. They also already have a MY line they can just copy from Fremont for Austin, or even share and ship MY parts if need be instead.

The unkonown is the CT line and build. I suppose they have the Plaid driveline now, which will do DM and TM at least, and theres a video floating around here of the exoskeleton production line. If they're doing the structual packs in kato road with the 4680s or Fremont (like they do 2170 in Nevada), then we're only really waiting on the Austin CT press, and them to move the already functional Fremont CT line to Austin, once its built.

Most definitely concurrently. No doubt. They are doing 2 new MY lines with casts and structual packs, Berlin and Austin. CT is its own thing, just its the thing we're waiting for.

All of these features are great but from from what I have researched the production of the CT probably won’t begin until Q2 2022. Look at some of the of the puzzle pieces that have yet to come together;
*8-ton Giga casting machine
*4680 cell manufacturing building
*Steel Dynamics stainless steel factory in Stinton (rumored to be the 3mm thick stainless steel supplier for the Cybertruck)
*Supply chain issues that the public is not privy to

Also, Rivian announced today that the all electric R1T pickup has now been delayed until September. It was scheduled to start production in June and then it slipped to July.
