"The best part is no part."
-Elon Musk
Elon also said "All input is error". If that's true, then does my car even need me at all? Shouldn't it just drive around where it wants to without me?

I feel ya. I think he might take a few things a little too far.

The phrase is a software concept. The user should never have to enter anything which the computer can figure out for itself.

However taken literally you walk outside and the car rolls up to you, you open the door and it goes where you want. This is why my Tesla tries to take me to my wife’s work every time I get into it in the morning.

Right. The phrase is probably more accurately presented as "All input is an opportunity for error".

I definitely don't want to have to input anything! My car should drive where I want it to. It knows because I have a neuralink, ... Oh, and a synced calendar I guess.

FSD...Neuralink...mind-reading satellites...

It's all starting to make sense now

I think it would be nice if Tesla gave us a charge port on the front, passenger side of the CT. This would allow those of us with trailers more options for charging without unhooking.

I wonder how much trouble it would be to add a second charge port if Elon doesn't give us one in the front.
Maybe a supercharger extension cable could be offered in the tesla store.

That’s a great idea. You could keep it rolled up in your frunk until needed. I‘m not knowledgeable enough on the subject to know if the charging amps would need to be reduced because of the extra length but I would think the extension could be made of a slightly larger gauge wire so the same amps could be drawn with the additional length. Very good idea to help get charged in a pinch. You need to throw that in Tesla’s suggestion box.

My first post after joining...Thanks for the add....

Franz answered the question about multiple charging ports on the Cybertruck from Motor Trend back in 2019....

https://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla-cybertruck-electric-pickup-superchargers/

<Motor Trend article> "Our suggestion was to have multiple charge ports on the truck, perhaps one at each corner, though it wasn't in the cards. Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen tells us the additional wiring required would add too much weight.

The charging solution? The plan is to build Cybertruck-friendly pull-through chargers, which will minimize the headache of charging with a trailer, just as standalone diesel pumps do for the 80-foot tractor-trailers hauling cargo across the country."

For the next year, Cybertrucks will be unicorns. Rare, often talked about, hardly ever seen in person.

Very few people will have them to worry about how they will pull in, where the charge port is, etc.

In that year, it is possible that there will be 50% more chargers than there is now. It would be very likely that more and more will be designed as pull thru spots.

It is also possible that EVs from other manufacturers will have to by an adapter (that may or may not include some cable length, depending on the EV). I assume only two adapters, one with cable and one without. Maybe 4, with the CCS1 w/cable, CCS1 w/o cable, J1772 w/cable, J1772 w/o cable.

(I did not think they would do just a J1772, but then vehicles like my Leaf or others like Zero Motorcycles or Live Wire would not be able to charge there at all... so there might be 4.)

With them (Tesla) already saying they will charge more the longer it takes, I expect some owners of some brands will not care, while those more economically minded will.

I also assume that non-Tesla EVs will pay a higher rate than Tesla owners... unless that manufacturer 'joins' the supercharger network.

And, all Tesla has to do is put the different cost for charging next to each other... so they know what it would cost if they were driving a Tesla or their manufacturer was part of the supercharger network.

Most Americans are familiar with the phrase "out of network cost" (sad as that is), so it might push a lot of these other manufacturers customers to complain... or make a different choice when next they purchase an EV.

Having all the charge ports in the same place makes it easier to design stations. There are usually one or two charge stalls suitable for people towing at each station.

Opening up the Superchargers to non-Tesla’s is going to shoot that effort in the foot.

Going to be infuriating rolling into an empty stall at the Supercharger station and realizing the guy in the stall next door is using the charger for your space because their charge port in on the off—side and it’s the only way it’ll reach.
never thought about that.....I'd be pissed too

I've always wanted to ride a unicorn. I guess I can settle for driving one.

Musk said they would have adaptors at the charge stations. To participate in the $7.5B government subsidies on building out the EV charger network, they have to be able to charge any brand vehicle. Requiring people buy an adaptor seems like it's at least against the spirit of that.

I also assume that non-Tesla EVs will pay a higher rate than Tesla owners... unless that manufacturer 'joins' the supercharger network.
I fully expect participating in the above mentioned government funding Tesla would need to charge the same rate to everyone (presumably Supercharger for life folks are exempt). Otherwise a company could support everyone in theory and just price non-Tesla owners out of the market.

Tesla is talking about some kind of time-based fees to discourage people with slow charging cars from camping the Superchargers. Per minute billing is illegal, but it's probably possible to charge a big fee after a certain amount of time at the charge station.

.

.

I'm quite certain Tesla is going to scoop up as much of that $7.5b EV charger station funding that they possibly can.

Zero, Arcimoto charge much too slowly to use Superchargers, even if it supplied AC. (CCS doesn't use those pins). Livewire and Energica use CCS so they'll be in.
