My Gladiator came with factory spray-in bedliner. I've had drop-ins, rubber mats, and spray-in. Of all those I prefer the mats first, spray-in second, and hate the drop-ins. I don't give a shit about damage to the truck; it's just the bed, but I want things to not slide around.

Personally I prefer no bedliner, the bare metal makes it much easier to slide heavy items in and out. To keep things from sliding around I use ratchet straps. To each their own.

I am happy to see that they gave the under bed storage hatch decent ribs to prevent it from bending. The latch cover on my work truck has gotten massively warped from sliding heavy items across it. Though I would prefer having a spare tire there and accessible from underneath not through the bed floor.

I'm 5'10", so my F-150 towered above me. I love that. I hate getting into a low vehicle.

Two things...

1. Unlike most trucks, the air suspension can be adjusted to a lower setting for people to get in and out.

2. The slope of the rear will definitely be quite a bit lower than the peak, so passengers will need to duck, especially when the suspension is lowered.
It would be great if this was in the driver profile. when you walk up it right heights the truck for you.

Beta. It has the wiper.

Honestly, I don't know if it is Alpha or Beta. Here was my logic in still calling it Alpha:
- Lineage is roughly Prototype, Alpha, Beta, Production
- This is the same vehicle type we saw spy shots and drone footage of late last year, which was different than the original prototype, i.e., Alpha
- Elon stated that the big wiper was not the production version
- we still have almost a year to go until production
- therefore, there is still time for Tesla to refine and produce Beta trucks for pre-production testing

So, I would expect the Beta to have the final wiper, and all decided features we will get in the production version.

Hopefully we will get some clarity on Wednesday, but in the meantime, I'm soaking up all the details of this leaked version.

Those are all reasons to call it Beta. I would interpret alpha to be the model driven at release and by Jay Leno, which this definitely isn't.

I found this video to be higher res and w/ audio:

That's missing steps in automotive lingo.

Prototype includes:
  • Concept
  • Mule
  • Alpha
  • Beta
But then you also have:
  • Validation
  • Production Intent
  • Production
Tesla doesn't do 'Concept' so they did a Prototype. Alpha in automotive lingo is often the same as prototype or concept - it's just the first of something.

Last July they said they were going into Beta, so Beta is what we saw last fall. Betas are for testing how you make the truck, they may or may not have all the features that will be on the Production vehicle.

But this has regulation and factory limitations... so every time you build a factory, you have two (or more) versions. They're what come next. Manufacturers cannot have anyone but their own employees drive on the road with pre-production cars, that's the next big step. You have validation, which are just to test the machines that make the trucks, and then production-intent, which are the trucks the factory makes that get crash-tested and other tested to make sure they're right. That's the next step after Beta and often the hardest.

Everytime you have a new factory, you go through the last three.

Agree I think.

Usually Beta is feature complete. This looks very beta to me. Everything looks finished and final, unlike the truck they showed on the track a few weeks ago with it’s monster wiper and gaffers tape.

I’d like to think a truck isn’t really beta until it’s been assembled on the assembly line because that is where hardware products really hit some major issues. It may be there is a beta production line in Fremont or Nevada tight now.

Either way, seeing a finished truck is encouraging.

Figures. The past four days I've been working my ass off. I can't wait to sit down and pour over all of this!!!

The wiper probably extends during travel like the old Mercedes wipers...

Also, the tires look like the same size as the ones on the Rivian (around 34") but there's easily three inches of fender clearance. Depending on the offset for width-- 35" are definitely a GO.

Since then, they referred to the truck spotted at Castle airfield as Alpha.

I don't care how sticky your bedliner is. 0-60MPH in 2.9 seconds is gonna require things be tied down.

In fact... I wonder if the tailgate latches are reinforced so that when I have my bowling ball collection in the back and I find myself lined up with a Corvette at a light....

Good idea. I personally like stepping up a bit. My back hurts when I need to step down, but some people may prefer a dip.
