Yah, DC charging should work even if both PCS DCAC converters fail; but, on some vehicles, that gets locked out. Software update prevents the PCS error from preventing DC charging on those trucks.

Free supercharging is an account/VIN server side issue and shouldn't need a SW update.

Bummer there isn't a closer DC charger 😮💨
Thanks, good info, the SC didn’t explain further what this “update rollout” did other than covering the Supercharging costs assuming DC Supercharging works.

When My PCS failed supercharging did not work
So I’m guessing this update does something to bypass whatever prevents it from working on a supercharger

Kyle's X post:

I got an official update from Tesla about the Cybertruck PCS issue resolution:

* Tesla has pushed out a firmware update to all affected CT's that will enable Supercharging while AC is down (from the PCS failure).
* The FW is set to bypass Wi-Fi delay so any CT owner can download ASAP. (This has not come through for my truck as far as I can tell).
* Tesla will be covering Supercharging for all affected owners until they resolve the parts delay, which is being worked on aggressively in parallel (should be live in next day or so).

On my Tessie app I appear to be clean on PCS errors, thanks for the info. I failed to mention that after Tesla Support looked at the internals the Wall Connector totally disappeared from my Tesla app and would not charge, AT ALL. I was forced to use the mobile connector in 120 mode, that gives you a whopping 12amps which is about 1% per hour. I reported this to Tesla and like magic, the next day, my 24amp Connector reappeared and is still charging at that rate even though the Truck and Connector are set to a 40amp breaker, 32amp charge mode. New Wall Connector arrives on Thursday, that will be the deciding point.
I also have a warranty replacement in progress for my gen3 universal wall charger; 2nd time the handle has been locked to the unit, and I'm getting a slow flashing green pulse.

It's in a weird state of provisioning mode. I can access the web interface and everything; no error reported. hopefully this 3rd one lasts longer than a year lol

Another reference point for others. I noticed my truck was charging at 24 amps. Checked the service alerts and see the PCS faults. I have a low VIN, March 2024 delivered cyberbeast.

Service here in Austin is saying these parts are on back order for 6-8 weeks but might come in sooner. In the interim they enabled free supercharging. Nice gesture but I’m really hoping PCS part comes in before home charging fails completely vs just slower right now for me at 24 amps.

I took another drive today - still don’t have the update to allow sc usage for free but I’m at 58% so I’ll have a few days before I need to charge again so maybe it’ll come in before then. Good thing I have basically zero plans for the next week

I’d take your truck to the sc that’s risky

The update shouldn't be needed (AFAIK) for free Supercharging, but rather to re-enable DC charging if it's locked out.

How do we know if Tesla has sent this update to our trucks? Also, how do we know we have free supercharging? Is it until it gets fixed or for lifetime?

It may show as a pending update. From other reports, free Supercharging just happens in the background at some point after submitting service request (Tesla may even be proactively polling trucks, but that's just me thinking out loud). Free supercharging would only be until PCS was fixed.

i got a call from my service center today saying no PCS in the country and they will be enabling free super charging to my account today until it's fixed. i did a test super charge today and it showed up as free. no truck firmware update needed.

This makes me feel so much better about planning a trip this summer. Instead of being stranded, now worst case scenario is free travel! Still unclear about what update makes it go from no charging to able to supercharge... but somehow they're doing it. Honestly, great work Tesla.
