Single motor version will likely have an induction motor, which is less efficient at speed than the reluctance motor. Right now when dual or triple motor versions cruise at speed induction motor is de-energized and only reluctance motor(s) is engaged, getting a slight improvement in efficiency. On the other hand additional motors add weight, which reduces efficiency, so that probably gets cancelled out. Then there is the battery pack - again going with a smaller pack you reduce vehicle weight thus improving efficiency, but you get some range reduction as the capacity is less...
RWD will have a PM motor not induction.

I agree. Tesla wants to blow out remaining 2024 inventory before posting a $7500 tax incentive on 2025 models. They still haven't cleared out remaining 2024 FS inventory yet.
Non qualifying inventory can be assigned to lease customers.

Summary of the Tesla car motor layouts I've kept track of.

There's nothing unethical or deceptive about this. What is deceptive about selling your trucks you have before selling the other trucks? You knew when you bought they had not completed the paperwork and that the trucks they were selling were not qualified because of that.

-Crissa
We did not know the only reason was they had not completed the paperwork because they refused to say anything. If we knew it was just the paperwork we could have made an informed decision.

I just priced out a base dual motor CT ($79,990) factoring in the $7500 tax credit. Totaling all fees and taxes, it would come to $80,108 delivered. I don't mind paying appropriate taxes but . . .

So, if I order an AWD today will it be a 2025 or a left over 2024 and hence ineligible?
Very clear the purchase must be on/after 1/1/2025 and must be a 2025 model year.
https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax2023.shtml

Model year is in the vehicle VIN, 10th character. R = 2024; S = 2025.

We are all guessing when existing stock of 2024 Cybertrucks are depleted and 2025 are available. Soon!

Taxes, fees, items not physically attached (aka FSD software) are not counted against "MSRP" of the vehicle. "MSRP Requirement. The vehicle's manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) can't exceed: $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks"

i called my local tesla center this morning. lady seemed to have no idea about the new eligibility as she just kept repeating what the website says about commercial vehicles.

i have a reservation now that is a 2024 model (according to the VIN), I don't think i can get away with filing it on my taxes next year for 2025, i think they check your VIN when you file. been awhile since i filed for the tax credit in 2020.

The information was: They weren't qualified. The reason they weren't qualified is irrelevant to an informed decision. You could wait until they were, or not.

The specific vehicle and buyer need to be submitted and approved through the IRS/ Treasury portal at the time of sale. No "S" in the 10th character slot means no chance of getting the consumer credit (point of sale nor tax filing).

right, i read into that a little bit after i wrote that message. i'm gonna hold off until they can assign me a 25' model, i'm really not in a rush to get one. just thought i would take advantage of referral incentive.

i'm suspecting they have a lot of 24' year models in inventory still. i was assigned a VIN immediately.

For what it's worth, correct or not here is what I got from my call:

I was told they don't currently have any vehicles available that qualify. I said I heard that some 25's were sold. He said they don't have any 25's available.

I was told the best option is to check the website. There will not be a POS Point of Sale adjustment that would be available prior to updating the website.

If the website is updated to reflect the EV credit (for non business or lease), 25's are available, and you pay the $250 deposit, if federal policy or EV credit eliminated between the time you order and the date of pickup then you would forfeit the $250 if you cancel.
