Hate all you want, it was in fact a real occurrence at 4:00 PM today. That is the delivery area at Austin Ponds Springs.
Where the heck were they able to do that to this truck in Austin? Whoever did that had to go purposely out of their way to get into mud that bad. Especially with the flash drought we’re in now.

Ridiculous. So… in what world can someone return a truck in that shape from a demo drive and nobody say anything to the demo driver?
Someone definitely took the truck for a "demo" and filmed a YouTube video with it. When I took a test drive of one, no one inspected anything when I returned it. I just gave the key card to someone inside the SC

I showed up for a demo drive of a Model S and the team said "sorry, your vehicle isn't back from the previous drive." I waited an hour and they said "it looks like the guy is shopping at Wal-Mart."

The team who manages these vehicles would've known exactly where this truck was at all times. Unless they were busy and the off-roading was all completed within the scheduled demo drive time so they weren't watching too closely.

That sucks, but I hope you got another one - don’t let a bunch of nitwits keep you from a great vehicle. 👍

Arranged to buy a CT demo with a little over 1.9K for a $3800 discount, boy was that a mistake. This truck was driven/abused offroad and had mud up inside everywhere, the pictures are from the delivery area after they cleaned it. Passed Tesla's supposed inspection process and the detailing team just must of said to hell with it. I will never buy a demo ever again, I don't care how many of you have positive stories, this truck was jacked up and Tesla was pleased as punch to assign it me. They even said "well it is a demo", how can anybody think this was OK? Nothing would even be able to be warrantied, they would blame everything on off road damage and mud.

Edit: Yes, I declined delivery, I did not make this clear the first time.

Honestly this warrants sending to a regional manager for review. The service manager of that shop needs to be fired if they think even a demo model should be remotely given to a customer in this condition.

And yes, dried mud turns into sandpaper if you don't clean it. It also brings on rust like crazy.

absolutely unacceptable on every level. Escalate this one using their new system and let us know how it goes.

I bought a used Model S Plaid a while back with 28K miles. Sure, it had a Tesla extended warranty, but it was also delivered with a nail in the tire and showing low tire pressure in that wheel. Oh, and it had some kids toys in the rear center console tray.

This pic in the lot at pickup. I accepted it anyway, Tesla replaced the tire and all was good for the next year+ before I traded it in on the Cybertruck.

There is no prep or pre-delivery inspection at Tesla. You're lucky if they wash it which in your case they did not.

I'm sure the OP was expecting typical demo model wear, but not utter neglect and disrespect. Tesla needs to hold themselves accountable for stuff like this.

Couldn't agree more, if you want to charge premium prices then deliver a premium (or even reasonable) experience.

Tesla should have sent this one straight to auction or Carmax.

I said attempted, I would never accept a truck anywhere close to this condition. I rejected and told everyone I could they were assholes for trying to deliver a truck in this condition and rejected it.
Excellent!!!

I would need a $10k discount off the MSRP to accept a demo unit in that condition.

The sad part is that this is probably a perfectly fine truck. But there's no way they could have performed a proper "inspection" with all that mud covering the components.

It would have taken them an hour with a pressure washer to clean it up, a few more minutes to correct the minor damage like the missing fairing.

Of course, I could do all of that myself post-delivery, but I'd need way more than a 3% discount to take that risk.

rejection approved 👍

whoa! the service guys took it mudding!
clearly this was never inspected!
I'll say it every time, when a walk into a service center, it's like walking into the Apple Store, run by a bunch of kids.
and forget about calling, you can't get anyone on the phone.

here's a good one,
I got a loaner for my cyberbeast being in service for 8 days, mid aug
I got a 2025 cyberbeast, and on the 8th day, I decide to engage beast mode and launch, why not!
well, I destroyed the rear motors and axles, one on each side, I limped into a gas station, tried to call tesla asap, then texted in the app of the truck and my cyberbeast.
after an hour, of dealing with the 800-customer service line, the service rep called me and said to call Tesla towing. OK, I call them, they said the VIN was no issued to me so they could not pick up the truck, Hour 2, i left in the service center hand when i got a ride almost an hour away to get another loaner vehicle,
I got a model X, plaid, whoa!
I could still see the truck at the gas station for 4 days, now I could still see it and access the cameras on my app, on day 5 it was towed to a Yard in Waterbury, again, I could still see it on my app,
I get a call 4 weeks later wanting to know if I know where their truck is. are you kidding me? this happed in August, and what tow company did I use?
no idea if they found it!

you can't make this up

Are you telling us that the Tesla dealer store tried to deliver this truck with all the mud? That's crazy.
