- 2018 Model 3 Performance, 2021 Model Y LR
Sorry this happened to the OP. I have a somewhat similar story of a sudden failure with my 2018 Performance Model 3, except that I didn't hit anything. I live on a slight hill. My car was a week or two old back in late August 2018, and I left home to run an errand. My pathway is to go uphill for a few houses and then make a turn where I start to go downhill and eventually make my away down to one of our main streets after some twists and turns.
Right after I made the turn at the top of the hill and started to go downhill, I went a few houses down and lightly pressed the brake pedal to keep my speed under control and there were no brakes. Well, that's what it felt like at first. I realized after a few seconds that it was my power brakes that had failed, I could still get a small amount of stopping power with a ton of force on the pedal, but it felt like I didn't have any brakes at all. It was a scary few seconds, that's for sure! I slowly got the car under control and stopped by really pressing for all I was worth on the brake pedal. I decided to turn around and go home, which took some effort to stop when I got to my house and started to go downhill again. I left the car parked on the street and contacted Tesla service.
They asked me the exact time of the failure and were able to get some information from the car. As I recall, they were able to verify that I had indeed suffered a temporary power braking issue. They sent out a tech to look at it. Honestly, it's been so many years ago that I forgot what they did to the car. But it never had that issue again.
OP, I'm very sympathetic to what happened to you...I hope that you can get your truck repaired and back on the road with a minimum amount of hassle...
