I wonder if they will give those expecting delivery a loaner. Imagine if someone sold their vehicle with the expectation that they would be taking delivery of a CT.
also imagine those Cybertrucks will save, relief & provide immense help if your family & friends are in similar dire situation. :p

Is this how they clear out the rest of the ‘24 inventory? Can the repurposed trucks be written off in some way, then turned into a lease, B2B, or another option? While current orders get the final batch of ‘24s?
and what if we later find out these were 2025 models? Probably someone will say they had a manufacturing defect causing Tesla to donate? lol! I guess no good deed goes unpunished! Instead of applauding Tesla’s actions for the greater good, we always find a way to pick something negative. First of all, they will not have any leftover FS + lifetime supercharging deals. Even if they have any unsold, they can put them for better use than donating. Tesla can just disassemble and reassemble them to sell as 2025 models. There is no difference between these FS models and 2025 models except badging and bed latches!!

fwiw I don’t think it’s negative, it’s incredible (if true). There is nothing wrong with a win-win, Tesla’s support in LA isn’t measured by how much that effort hurts the company, so any emergent benefit is great for everyone

This is why Elon is adamant about not having to spend money on traditional advertising.

It's simply not needed.
Yeah. But you can't always have a Natural Disaster when you need some Advertising....;)

I came here to see those trying to turn a Tesla positive into a Tesla negative. It happens on every thread just as sure as the sun rises in the morning.

No surprise, it happened on the second post.

Where is the concern for those who lost everything?

They are literally telling buyers they had to use their trucks for emergency purposes. If their goal was to clear out inventory, they would have just delivered the trucks to those who ordered them rather than risk cancellations. The emergency relief would have to wait.

Just be glad that Tesla can afford to do this, and they are willing.

I don't see Rivian offering their trucks as emergency communications power sources.

As a thought experiment, say Tesla has 100 2024 CTs sitting on various lots and 50 orders planed for delivery this week in California.

They know selling the remaining 50 2024 models will be difficult given the 2025 models are point of sale tax credit qualified

You could take the 50 CTs scheduled for delivery and use those for disaster relief, then go find the last 50 in lots from other parts of the country and ship those in for delivery

You could assume some percentage of cancellations, maybe 10%? Some of those could be converted to other options too, although delaying delivering by a few days to a week shouldn't hurt too badly, especially since it's for a good cause.

The 50 used for disaster relief will be written off, so there is a tax benefit there not to mention the marketing event around it. Those CTs could then be repurposed for other things (e.g. test drives, employee benefits, lease, b2b (emergency service vehicles) etc).

The last 50 are then shipped in to replace the original 50 less the cancellations, thus driving down 2024 inventory and moving onto the backlog of tax credit hold outs

Is this likely? I don't know, but if so it's a great move all around

I'm unaware of any such method for writing off vehicles you took to a disaster.

Could you point me to one?

I don't know about all the Cybertrucks but it does mention : " Tesla has donated multiple Cybertrucks to be utilized as battery banks for Altadena Mountain Rescue at their station until power is restored." above. Altadena Mountain Rescue Team is a 501(c) (Nonprofit). They give Tesla a receipt for the donation. Tesla can then submit that on the tax return to the IRS. However I don't believe Tesla has paid a dime to the IRS yet and unless Tesla does for 2025 it won't get anything for the donation. But yes the IRS has provision for Tax write offs on charitable donations.
