It has two studs, one front and one rear. Front seems more important, probably changed both?

Yes, they changed both.

Are they going to force this onto customers if we bring in the car for ann unrelated matter?

My car is wrapped and the cant rail looks solid. Not too keen on doing this.
Mine is wrapped too, I live in So. Cal - so it is not a priority for me. There is a 'healthy' blog on this forum about 'what' exactly Tesla *should* do with wrapped CT's.

Recall, THEY Tesla sold wrapped CT themselves.

IMO: They need to compensate to cover the rewrap of the Cantrail. This is a 'recall' issue and not a 'warranty' issue. this is a mistake by Tesla - that they need to bear the cost of that. I've had a somewhat similar issues with mercedes - and they deal with my after-market cosmetics without a single complaint.

Find the blog on this issue: again, it goes on for pages [some pages written by me]

I hope Tesla steps up.

Regards
Jack

They cannot FORCE you to replace them... Recalls are for the CUSTOMER and you have a right NOT to be forced to do them... BUT, if you refuse, you will NEVER be able to replace them (even for something else) unless you PAY for it out of pocket...

Anyone know the details of what changes they made to the cant rails?
I saw elsewhere that there's a welded fastener and not just adhesive between the stainless panel and the inner part.

I have a wrapped truck and reached out to my wrap people. I explained the situation and they quoted me $800 to re-wrap the rails with the same material...Not looking forward to that...

Why are there 3 different option to fix it?
  • No Butyl Patches required
  • 2 Butyl Patches Applied
  • 8 Butyl Patches Applied
There were differences in the manufacturing process since the truck was released. Some have holes in the cant rail, some done. If it has holes, then it’ll require the butyl patch to be installed over the hole.

Was there a change in manufacturing techniques? Or is it how bad it's gotten? Or something else?
The frame went through some changes, the patches seal the holes under where the cantrail goes. I think these were originally for additional fastening clips. Some frames only need the rear most hole covered (on both sides), others need the fronts also.

Yes. Just like the rear sail applique; I had them wrapped, then they replaced them under a recall. I ended up having to re-wrap them, again.
No manufacture is going to pay to re wrap. That’s an owner choice modification.
