Bummer as a new owner to have to accept something that sinks your heart.

If you are not happy ask them to fix, if they say its within spec, reject and ask if you can have the next truck when available.
Well this is the trick they normally do. The delivery associate will tell you anything and everything you want to hear. Then when you come back for the service appointment, the tech will tell you "within spec". Especially for panel alignments, they will tell you upfront it will be fixed, and then the tech won't do it when you come back.

I am not handing over a check for +$100k for something that looks like someone held a flame against it...

I say you keep it, you’re going to wrap it anyways. Tesla already knows we will take delivery of anything so they just let these examples get through.

I visited my CT in the lot before they had a chance to clean it up. There are some "smudge/scraps" I think will come out when they detail it. Unfortunately, there is a dimple/nip on the back passenger fender. I am uploading both a cropped picture of it and the full picture of it so you can download it and zoom in. If you really zoom in you will see that the whole area looks stressed even above the nip. If I reject it, I have no idea when I would get a new one. I saw someone indicate it was 6 weeks. Also, will a new one have worse issues. I also have a truck I am selling to Carvana which is due to be turned in this coming Tuesday. We have several cars in our family, so I could survive a couple of months without a truck. Let me know what you think.

Keep it! It will be a collector’s item. How much you ask? Think of the Penny that has been mis-stamped and it worth thousands!

The number of people who say they've had service centers fix things means that no, they're not always just gaslighting you.

IMHO, if it bothers you enough to post about it here, then you better fix it, or it will forever haunt you and ruin your enjoyment of the CT.
I think this is the answer. Though small, it's now taking up a bigger space in your head than warranted. I think grinding your own profile on it (and a match on the other side) could be a cool solution, though.

Just don't slip with the grinder. :)

Why not just have Tesla replace the panel?

If you get this truck wrapped that area won't stick correctly so it will be even more noticeable after wrapping. And you may not choose to wrap it immediately. I've had people wait a couple of weeks because that's how long it took them to get tired of wiping other people's finger prints away.
Thank you for that point, I did not contemplate that issue completely. I am still on the fence, but I notified the service center and I am waiting their reply.

I have no idea how or what it will take to replace the panel and if there might be a different hue to the stainless steel as it will be from a different lot. I guess we will see what the customer service center says.

I think the biggest factor for the matching of the panels is that they refinish the old and new panels together. Knowing that they have to do that, they may even hold back your delivery until they can get that panel so that they don't have to refinish the truck twice (they already do it once during delivery prep).

They may already have a panel on order. They haven't called you yet for delivery, which means they aren't really expecting you to have seen the truck yet. We don't even know that they would try to make you take that panel. And they definitely aren't expecting to hear from you about an issue before they've given the truck a once over.

I'll be interested to see how this unfolds for sure.

I had a dent on the hood of my CT at delivery.
Just what is going on here? It's not like they aren't used to delivering MILLIONS of painted vehicles without denting and scratching the hell out of them......

H*** no. I would pay extra for that...and all the scratches on the mirrors and plastic part from 4wheeling to boot. I'm not gonna treat this like I do my Model 3.

Also, Does anyone know what this means written on the CT. All of the other trucks in the lot only had WC, not the term "No ASN" or " Z7" both crossed out.

What’s up with that clear wavy bubbly glue they used to attach that panel? Model three is a lot cleaner than that mess, don’t accept. LOL.

Yeah you guys are right, we should all accept trucks covered in scratches, dings, and poor grinding marks like that for the $110k that it costs for them just because:

-it's a truck
-it's stainless steel and it's not gonna rust
-you could reshape the truck yourself
-nobody will notice
-etc

*eyes roll out of head*
Oh, I think it really comes down to individual preference. Nobody is going to make you accept it, if you don't like it. That means it comes down to practical considerations:

1) Would you rather get your truck now as-is, or not. Depending upon how much a person cares about absolute perfection, I can see it going either way.

2) Do you want to take delivery now, with a written promise to replace the frunk?

That's really all it comes down to. The discussion is good because it provided addition sub-options for scenario #1, take delivery and touch it up yourself.

There are a lot of considerations, depending upon who you are. For example, I would take this example as is, for a number of reasons that are important to ME:

1) It doesn't bother me and I don't want the environmental footprint of making a new frunk lid and recycling the old one.

2) I want the truck now.

3) Yes, it's a unique beauty mark caused, most likely, by a screw up at the factory. As they go into less hand finished and more machine finished edges, I doubt we will ever see anything like this again. I'm not excusing the defect, just pointing out that some might like it.

Others will reject it out of hand, that is their right and they will live with the delay. There is no right answer.
