It's not part of the drivetrain...
It is arguably part of the powertrain though - which is what the petition is about. Note that Tesla has already tacitly admitted it should be covered under an extended warranty, but has excluded the Cybertruck. (Source TeslaNorth.com)It's not part of the drivetrain...
This information is as useless for relying on as a Facebook meme your grandmother shares.
Again, it's not part of the drive train and Tesla still stands by that with the "High-priced propulsion warranty"...not extended drive train warranty. It is arguably part of the powertrain though - which is what the petition is about. "According to new warranty documents, Tesla is introducing a “High-Priced Propulsion-Related Part Warranty,” which adds 7 years or 70,000 miles (110,000 km) of coverage on certain expensive components. This comes on top of Tesla’s basic vehicle warranty (4 years or 50,000 miles) and its existing 8-year battery and drive unit coverage.
The new warranty applies to the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, but curiously does not extend to the Cybertruck.
Here’s a list of the parts covered under the new 7-year warranty:
- Power Conversion System (PCS) Assembly
- PCS Inlet and Outlet Assembly Hoses
- Ancillary Harness Assembly
- High Voltage Fast Charge Contactors Assembly
- High Voltage System Controller
- Front and Rear Halfshaft Assemblies
- Front, Right, and Left Electrical Harness Assemblies
- Supermanifold Assembly
- Cooling Fan Assembly
- Radiator
Whoa whoa whoa there buddy - Grandma spits straight facts on her FB page. Are you trying to imply the moon isn't made out of cheese here? This information is as useless for relying on as a Facebook meme your grandmother shares.
Agreed that the PCS is not included in the Tesla drivetrain warranty, but the exclusion is debatable.Again, it's not part of the drive train and Tesla still stands by that with the "High-priced propulsion warranty"...not extended drive train warranty.
“Propulsion warranty” says it all…the very word propulsion implies these parts are part of the Drivetrain.Again, it's not part of the drive train and Tesla still stands by that with the "High-priced propulsion warranty"...not extended drive train warranty.
At first glance I would say the CT isn't covered because it has a ridiculously high failure rate, but the fact they included the half shaft assemblies for the S/X (also a really high failure rate) takes away that argument.
Within my warranty I've had my PCS (along with 40% of people polled here), air suspension, and HVAC fail. It sucks, but kind of what I expected with buying such a novel vehicle.
If it continues, it hopefully triggers a recall.
With the right prompt I can make grok say anything.
Good point, and it looks like 2026 trucks are covered under the new high-priced propulsion warranty. It’s just our early adopter trucks that don’t have coverage. There isn't a drivetrain or powertrain warranty anyway. There's a high voltage battery and drive unit warranty, which makes it a lot more specific as to what is actually covered. There may be a little ambiguity about what exactly makes up the high voltage battery and drive units. Depending on what the actual failure rate is, Tesla should probably release a voluntary warranty extension on the PCS. Several of my BMWs have had specific component warranties issued for high failure rate components. The NHTSA usually deals with safety related components, but they've also been involved with warranty extensions for other, non-safety related things. It'd be interesting to see what's required to get an investigation into the actual PCS failure rate and what would be required to get Tesla to apply an additional warranty.
