You're helping to assuage my concerns, this is good information, thank you. I use a winch a lot, maybe you have insights on hooking up a winch to an electric truck? Seems like a natural pairing. I welded a hitch receiver to the front of my last truck and I wired a connector, maybe Tesla has thought ahead in this regard as well.

I think both a roof rack for long stock, or winch compatibility will increase the Cybertruck usability a lot, and can be selling points for some who are on the fence or don't yet realize what an awesome vehicle the Cybertruck already is even without considering those things.

For a winch, one would have to see more of the areas under the front and rear bumper, which I don't have any images of really. But I would be surprised if the Cybertruck design doesn't already have some versatile winch attachment points. I don't think Tesla, Elon, and Franz would overlook such a basic feature very common to trucks. Ultimately we'll just have to wait and see but I'm thinking (speculating) that winch attachment points will be included in the design.

They showed the CT with a roof rack in the unveiling so whether they are producing one or not they are preparing the CT for a rack. Here is an article that references a post on this forum with pics:

https://insideevs.com/news/408588/tesla-cybertruck-bed-ladder-rails/
I've seen that article, but I think that design is very early and not well thought out. One doesn't realize at first glance from the renders, but the CT mount points grow more narrow (less width) at the top peak versus the back lower vault attach points. So that rack would be like a trapezoid viewed from the top, with the rack getting more narrow toward the front, and thus would not have a parallel or consistent width on top for carrying long items. While such a rack would basically still work, I don't think that particular design is very optimal and some would have problems with the front growing more narrow. The shape of the Cybertruck does pose some design challenges for attaching a roof rack, but I think there are ways to do it slightly better.

That wasn't my point. My point was that, from the get go, Tesla was thinking in terms of supporting a rack as an accessory. I would expect to see standard mounting point options on the exoskeleton. That way there will be lots of options in a short amount of time. The same goes for the track in the bed. A standard track allows the truck to use a plethora of existing accessories. I hope that they have something similar for the front and back bumpers, for winches, snowplows, gear boxes, etc. What makes a truck a 'swiss army knife" is how adaptable it is, not necessarily what comes with it.

Exactly, but to both yours and my 'point' I had already (pointed) out that very same thing to Surfbigisland just a few posts back, (pointing) out just how versatile the attachment 'points' would be.

But I don't think that rack in the old InsideEVs article was actually from Tesla as it was early and doesn't appear anywhere near refined as a Tesla design would be. But regardless as you pointed out the mount points on each edge will provide for various design options, which was what I also said in post #45 above:

I was being critical of that particular design, not your post. Your point was not missed either, but since we had been discussing it already I figured you knew we were already 'on that page'.

Good points.... I guess, owning the CT is like taking a leaf of faith.... Hmm. I just have to find a way to use CT without the roof rack until some with come up with something for sure.....heck I forgot that regardless I still have the ICE truck on the side for a while . LOL.
Most likely it won't take very long for the market to start making accessories for the CT. What do those makers like making the most? Money! What do Tesla accessories cost? Money! They can charge a premium at first because people will pay it. Then, as the CT becomes more ubiquitus, prices will come down and more people will be able to justify roof racks and lumber racks, etc. At that point, the full utility of the CT will become apparent and THEN, you'll watch as the CT finally outsells Ford.

For some reason, Ford always says "The F-Series is the best-selling truck"... They count F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450 combined. You'll see the CT outsell Ram, then Chevy/GM, and finally Ford. I don't think it'll be so much a matter of Tesla being heads and shoulders above those guys, I just don't think Ford, GM, or Ram will get their collective heads out of their collective asses fast enough. I think you'll see a few years where Tesla outsells them and then maybe, just maybe, the "big 3" will figure it out and begin out producing Tesla. I say "Good!" I just want my Cybertruck and I'm okay with everyone else finding an EV somewhere else.

Has anyone heard anything new about lumber racks? I've been mulling over design concepts in my head for a couple of years now, but it's hard when you don't have the truck to look at. I was thinking about it today, and it's really weird that no truck manufacturer offers factory lumber racks that I'm aware of. Every lumber rack I've ever seen has been an aftermarket rack.
My concept for intermittent use attaches to the mount points. Scissors up for use and collapses down for low profile range impact. Concept is not intended for daily but would be strong enough for daily use.

I'm sure if Tesla doesn't make a level set of roof racks, another company will. It will be interesting to see what options we can order to come with the cybertruck.
I guarantee, there will be a plethora of companies just waiting to build a number of different configs. It's gonna be a "yuge" secondary market. Businesses are going to spring up like, overnight.

I think we’re going to have to wait for aftermarket. It would be nice if Tesla made one though. Aftermarket can’t announce anything until we get final specs. I suspect we’ll see some launched immediately after the truck comes out.

If it takes off, CT could outsell Ford much quicker than anticipated.

Correspondingly, Ford would lose sales. The outsell point could be 400,000.

My dream/pet theory is that the winch will live in the frunk, with only the fairlead sticking out the front...

I was thinking of a similar solution, but hinged at the base and fold over on eachother. With a 5' bed there would be enough room for plywood and drywall in between the folding lumber rack. Someone else posted a picture of 6 capped points and they are placed so perfectly for a lumber rack, that I now think there's a high probability that's what they're for.
