In NYC? Even if, it is such a small number (anywhere) that it doesn't deserve the attention you are giving it. And I never said anything about driving being outlawed in the U.S. (or anywhere), nor would I. I am not sure where that kind of negativism is coming from but it isn't related to anything I have said or believe.
Charlie said "I am of the opinion one day driving will be illegal" and then you said Charlie "is making good points". I was refuting this particular opinion, which you evidently agreed with.

Charlie also tried to suggest that using "horse as travel" was now extinct, but it most certainly not illegal in Texas, or Amish country in Pennsylvania, or rural areas with farms and ranches. Thus, it does not make a compelling argument for his prediction about the future of human drivers.

I doubt 'Merica will ever make "human driving" illegal, but it might require a special license or extra insurance.
The government will not have to ban "human driving" at first.

The good old capitalist system will do it. "Human driving" will be effectively banned for regular people by the insurance companies.

The insurance companies will give really low rates to autonomous vehicles and jack up the insurance premium for professional human drivers and rates to the moon for non-professional human drivers.

Only the very rich non-professional human drivers will be able to afford the insurance rates.

That's my point. Driving won't be made illegal, people will simply stop doing it.

Try to make something illegal and people will do it just out of spite lol

Where I live horses are allowed on the side of the road but not ā€˜onā€™ the road,
equine in Texas have identical rights and obligations on the road (other than interstates)

just a 'ha' aside

in any event, I'm a mule man, myself

Although I donā€™t like the lack of feedback in the Airbus passive side sticks, all fhe captain has to do is mash the override button and he has full control. He should also say ā€œIā€™ve got it.ā€ Sadly there are multiple accidents where that didnā€™t happen.
Without physical feedback it apparently is not even obvious he needs to hit override. I understand that was the issue in that case: not knowing that the other guy was constantly pulling.

I, too, like driving. However, I can see lots of cases where it will be great having FSD... Think about when you are too old to drive and need to get to the doctor...
For me, sometimes, I like to just grab something to eat while on the run and don't necessarily want to stop and eat. Think grabbing a breakfast sandwich on the way to the lake. Eating while driving is not as safe as eating while on FSD. I mean, I've got the knee driving down but I'm nowhere nearly as fast as FSD at taking over control should things go sideways.
Iā€™m not against FSD per se. I would probably use it myself now and then if I could sufficiently trust it to fully take over. I just donā€™t want to be forced to do so.

No force will be involved. Just capitalism working it's hand.

The insurance companies will just decline to insure non-professional human drivers or the insurance companies will charge such a high premium that most non-professional human drivers will not be able to afford to directly drive.

You already see that where Tesla insurance is allowed to use driver metrics to set rates. You get better rates the more you use FSD.
