Cause when Elon says something.. its fact.

ahem.. he's going to buy Twitter, or Manchester United.
You know for a fact he's not buying Twitter? Jury's out still.

And frankly, you're not a real billionaire until you own a sports team.

Whether he's forced to buy it or not. His intention is to not buy it, after saying he would buy it!

Man I wish discussion of Tesla products and technology innovation wasn't so f'n wrapped up in EM talk. I literally could give a crap about the man behind the curtain. He's entirely too dominant in an important topic. Our society needs to ditch the obsession with Cult of Personalities.

Someone said the same exact thing at the forum about Leonardo Da Vinci.

How do you know it's a cult? You're never at the meetings

Possibly.
... exoskeleton becomes meaningless because that is the wrong word to use for it, even if a crustacean has internal parts.

BTW I'm not sure you read the list I wrote explaining each part in more detail, but the only structual part of the floor is the structual pack, and the castings would hold the other underbody panels on.

...
I already ceded the term "exoskeleton". I don't care if you call it "purpleburrito". I will though.

When the CT is released and we get the weight and capabilities you think it won't be lighter, and be way easier to build than the other EV trucks on the market using old style construction?

Its a package, the purpleburrito body with the castings and structural pack work in tandem and will be FAR superior to body on ladder frame. Do you not agree?

Are you really going to say that the CT purpleburrito has no advantage in tandem use with the structural bat/castings compared to the current way of building a truck? Because it sounds to me like you're saying it's not necessary and they could just do a standard thousand piece welded body (no skin) on the castings and it'll be just as good. Is that what you're saying?

Or are you just upset that they're not calling the "exoskeleton" "purpleburrito"?

I’m not convinced the car has actually changed at all.

That’s my whole point. You keep asserting that it’s different now, but the truck is physically the same and we have no signs that it has changed.

You’ve essentially created this idea in your head of what it should look like and decided that it doesn’t match that… thus it must have changed.

I don’t buy the “Changed“ part.

It is the way it’s always been. You are holding it up to a standard which has never existed.
I never said the CT changed, only that now after seeing how the structural pack and castings worked on the MY, which was after the CT reveal, have I noticed how little exoskeleton there actually is.

So no standard to hold up, it's just that we never got to see all the parts, and now the exoskeleton seems a bit redundant given how well the assembly of MY like parts in it work.

If you're saying the purpleburrito is redundant, are you saying it's no different, or any better than the old way of making the body?

Many unibody cars would be considered an exoskeleton if they were living creatures. Especially ones like Hondas or Teslas which don't have extra body panels or covering panels. There are places along the exterior that if it gets a crease, the actual frame is now compromised, and cannot be repaired without major major welding. The kind that costs more than many new cars, this day and age.

But the Cybertruck actually takes this a step further by putting strength not just in that frame around the windows and doors but into the skin of the vehicle itself. Not just the crumple strength in a collision but the torsional strength keeping its triangles triangle.

And that's cool.

-Crissa

PS: The structural battery pack is irrelevant to the gigacastings. The Model Y from Fremont and Shanghai have the gigacastings.

Coolio...
I didn't say any of those other things, I like the CT parts and package, just that the parts you are calling "exoskeleton" are the same on the MY, but no-one calls them that on there either. I'm happy to call things what they are.

I believe the CT design is really good, and I like it. It consists of different parts that are put together to make it. These parts are:
Structural battery pack, front and rear casting, windscreen and rear roof glass, cabin structure, doors, and last but not least the only "exoskeleton" part, the front and rear fenders and sail.

I don't care about how old legacy autos are made, and never mentioned how bad I think they are in comparison. CT 8s a change in the right direction either way you look at it.

… So no standard to hold up …
Unibody frames aren’t actually a single part as well so fuck that terminology to hell as well.

Ladder frames can’t actually be stood up and used as ladders… worthless phrase.

It’s a rough phrase Tesla made to describe a characteristic of the truck. The skin increases the vehicle’s structural integrity. That’s it.
