For us, the number of days without power has fluctuated, but after learning we could be out for four days, I stopped keeping tropical fish (although now with my backups I could...). Weather events and other types of disasters can change how you react to things. So the idea of Powershare was often met with someone in the relies here saying, 'well, my power never goes out that long'.

Well, has the breadth of the most recent storm, of a Hurricane reaching further inland than before, changed your view? Or someone who's spoken to you?

We are in Western NC and still without power (We have a generator but it ran out of LP gas after a couple of days). Ironically they just finished installing the gateway last week but it needs inspection from the power company before turning on and because we also installed solar and a powerwall it might not work yet anyway. Nevertheless the CT saved us. We had extensions cords running from all the 110 outlets and kept essentials up and running. Lights, chargers, refrigerator, etc drained about 5-7% of the battery per 24 hours. The supercharger a few miles away in Sylva has been working so easy to refill the battery as needed. So yes, very happy to have the truck and look forward to the PowerShare for the next catastrophic event.

I installed a battery backup system a couple of years ago to supplement my 6.8kW PV solar system. Rather than install Powershare at an install cost of $3160, I installed a generator inlet (using CT as generator) to supplement my house battery when grid failure is prolonged. The advantage to this system is that power backup is not dependent on the CT being available and plugged in which is important when we are in Arizona over the winter months. The solar system is large enough to supply power to critical loads (refrigerator, freezer, furnace, internet . . ) and recharge the battery to get through the night.

I've had a generator inlet installed with an 50A cable right after the electricity went out. The cable was out of stock everywhere, so my electrician made a temporary hack. I managed to run my whole house (including an A/C, 2 fridges, water heater, etc.) on it for a night, then the electricity came back.
