Confirmed by engineering in Austin that it is not a firmware problem. This is a recall Tesla is sliding under the radar.

It’s an issue with the board on the inverter of the motor.

Only fix is a front drive unit replacement
It's not a recall in the regulatory sense because it is not safety nor FMVSS related.

do you remember if it was always like this?
I have only had mine for a month and a half. Delivery was 9/14. I never noticed in the first 2 or 3 weeks but I rarely go that fast in it also. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Tesla is great at addressing things like this. They will fix it…whatever it is! Best vehicle ever conceptualized & built ;)

What kind of rush do you need to be in to be going 90 anywhere?

I do a lot of driving in “Mexico” and the beast is very happy to cruise at 90-100 MPH. Feels very stable— like a luxury sedan. No issues whatsoever apart from terrible efficiency.

I honestly don’t remember if this behavior existed earlier on but there was this one time while running FSD on the HOV lane, when I tapped the pedal to accelerate and FSD freaked out, started rattling and demanded I take over and drive.
FSD tops out at 85, if you go over it will get all sorts of crazy.

could it be a simple tire out of balance?
This was my first thought, but tire imbalance would be gradual and not felt only during deceleration. Weird, will also be watching this thread.

My AWD does not have these issues over 85, just throwing that in

@kappaknight I recommend you go immediately to a service center and have them check the front knuckle assembly for a loose bolt. This happened to me and they never seen it prior. But everything’s new on CT. Took them a weeks to get parts and figure out if anything else was loose. Felt like what you describe but my wheel oscillated at ~40 mph. Very dangerous if it’s what happened to mine.

Yes, mine does it as well & I have an service appt in new week
You may want to try this before your Service appt. I was able to fix this myself today with a reboot.

Since the "rattling for attention" only happened while in FSD, I suspected that it was a coded (software) behavior and for whatever reason the behavior did not clear out even when not using FSD. I also didn't notice any rattling up to 85mph, which lead me to believe nothing was out of balance or anything.

I rebooted the CB today via pressing down both click wheels and took it up past 90 mph and it was smooth as silk coming back down to < 85mph. I guess my hunch was correct that it was a software issue.

Glad to hear this one didn't require a service visit.

Huh, there were some other alerts from FSD that accidentally stuck, also reported on the board. Unfortunately, not all of those cleared with a simple reset.

Glad yours did! That was a weird one.

I have different question. How much does this over 85 speed decrease your range??? I've been on 2 long trips. I struggled to get 250 miles out of 318. That 70 cruise and 70 AC. Which is about what I got out of my 2018 100D LR.
