I think they are just clarifying that the unsupervised version of FSD isn't out yet, therefore you will only be getting the supervised version currently.

It was changed for liability reasons. You have to supervise it, it's not fully self driving.

Plus at some point there will be an unsupervised version.

Last "promise was "September. Hope that means less than a week away but I'm not holding my breath. I expect FSD will be delayed again.

So what is new here? It has always been supervised, and they only changed the name because of the dufusses out there that tried to use it as a chauffeur. When it no longer requires supervision they will change the name again, or do you think that you bought a shrink wrapped piece of software and will have to buy another version later? That isn’t how it works. We have been getting regular updates for years.

Why do we pay for FSD but do not receive it?
Gee, why was Google Gmail listed as beta for 10 years? Were you the kid who always asked “are we there yet?” We are all champing at the bit for FSD on the Cybertruck but it will come when it comes.

Not the best analogy. You could use Gmail day 1, and it was free.

Paying for FSD on a CT is more like buying a custom house that takes years to build. You paid on trust, hoping that the product lives up to your expectations.

Like you said, they only changed the name so people more clearly know that the vehicle can't drive itself yet without some sort of intervention (i.e ,touching the steering wheel, keeping eyes forward).

Of course, we will get an update one day which changes it to unsupervised or just removes the "supervised" language and call it purely FSD again.

Because the supercomputer cluster used to train the CT at Giga Texas isn't online yet.

Or Tesla put the “supervised” in front of full self-driving because they want to differentiate the two. Meaning that when unsupervised FSD comes out we all will have to pay an extra fee for it if we want it. I hadn’t considered the possibility that they deliver unsupervised FSD to the rest of the fleet before CT owners even get supervised FSD. Hmmm. With the robotaxi event fast approaching, it wouldn’t surprise me. I hope I am way off base, but I’ve seen zero indication that FSD is any kind of priority for CT.
