Presumably a coincidence, but the RWD Cybertruck was announced on the same day that Cox released the 1Q 2025 EV sales report for the US.

They estimated 6,406 CT sales. The CT dropped to #2 among BEV pickups, behind the F-150 Lighting at 7,187. The CT was #10 among BEVs generally (after finishing 2024 as #5).

So seems like CT sales could use a boost. Obviously the less expensive RWD version should help, but deliveries aren't scheduled until June-July 2025, which may not come fast enough to bump up the 2Q 2025 numbers..

Quick google search found this!!

The Cybertruck's signature lamps, also referred to as the "signature light bar," are the wide, bright LED strip located across the front of the vehicle, below the windshield.
I thought this too, but the images show it with the light bar on, but the picture shows the rear bar off.

Or push those on the fence who wanted a cheaper version to wake up see what all is being lost. Now they want the awd variant.

As a 2019 $39,900 RWD reservation holder since 2019 I was hoping for a $60,990 MSRP. I’m still sitting on my reservation.

I‘m a bit disappointed over the price cut as I thought it would be larger than $10k. I would place my order tonight if my Tesla stock was in better shape.
Yea...... $70k $71k if you want the bed cover. As stripped down as it is reading through the specs I was thinking $55-$60k

The more robust bed that is not a grate over the compressor sounds great, the rest, ouch.

It's still a bit too high I think to move a lot of them. $60k starting is where it needs to be.

I'd say for most people the AWD is the value leader.
Yup and electrek stole the words out my mouth. Basically this variant will likely push those on the fence to opt for the premium features

Electrek’s Take
I might be wrong, but I would assume that the previously announced $61,000 Cybertruck is not going to happen. The Cybertruck is likely proving to be too low-volume to warrant producing different sizes of battery packs.

However, this version might be just to make the $80,000 Cybertruck look better.

It’s not to lose the AWD, the tonneau, the adaptive suspension, and even the bed outlets for $10,000.

Yea the question is.....will folks reserving these have to wait 6 years before they get delivered like we did? Hope they can get these shipped out soon.

True, some people might react that way. On the other hand, some people who were saving up for an AWD might now decide to buy the more affordable RWD instead (which probably means less profit for Tesla). Such "cannibalization" is typically a concern when manufacturers introduce less expensive versions of established products.
