I’m really tempted to sell because of all the attention, criticism, assumptions, and even aggressive drivers targeting me on the highway. I also wish Elon wasn’t so vocal and polarizing—it’s not great for a CEO, and honestly, it’s embarrassing to own any Tesla right now, let alone the Cybertruck. The internet hype, trash talk, and misinformation don’t help either. Has anyone seen the new GM ad where they show how strong their doors are by slamming them shut? It seems like a direct response to that viral video of the WhistlinDiesel group wrecking the Cybertruck doors.

Do you think all this will die down once more non-FS models hit the road or maybe after things calm down later this fall?

How is it embarrassing? I don’t understand. Owning a Tesla has to be the most patriotic thing you can do, no?
I think 95% of the people buying this thing specifically do it for the attention it will draw. I do sense it already dying down in my area as more and more are out and about - if that’s truly why you are considering selling.

I think you gotta learn to be your own man/woman. It’s your life to live, these are your dollars and choices.

Who gives a flying fuck what other people think? Especially, ignorant simpletons who are contributing zero dollars to your
acquisitions?

I wasn’t asking anyone’s permission when I got my PT Cruiser (which people hated/hate) and I still think was a great looking, super functional fucking car! I didn’t buy my FJ Cruiser b/c other people were into it, and some people think Corvettes are lame. I have opinions about Ford Focuses and Priuseses (Priusi?), which is why I don’t buy those cars. I sure as shit don’t care what do you think about my CB!

Life is not about making other people happy or comfortable. As long as you’re not hurting anyone and minding your own business, let them mind theirs! If they don’t know that they have their own business to mind, you can gently remind them. Or as is my tendency- not so gently!

This is not complicated.

For every negative comment I hear I get at least 100 positive comments. Thank God I don’t choose which products to purchase based on what the CEO’s lifestyle or opinion is.
I’ve gone from fanboy to frenemy on Elon. He should really learn to shut the fuck up, but that’s besides the point (as you note). When I’m purchasing vehicles I’m looking for something that matches up with my needs and wants.

We’ve bought a total of five Teslas back to back since 2020. In the 30 years since I bought my first car (a Dodge), that’s never happened before with any car brand. Tesla is making the best cars on the market right now! PERIOD. End of story!

Yes, he’s an ass-hat (IMO)! But as we say where I’m from, “One monkey don’t stop no show!

I’m not interested in his politics or X, which I jumped from after he bought it, Grok (which is inferior) and I’m currently not in the market for a tunnel or spaceship. But, Tesla is full of amazing engineers, Franz is an incredible designer and Elon was absolutely right about one thing: If you’re buying a car right now and you’re not buying a Tesla, you might as well be buying a horse and buggy.

I’m saying this because I really do want people to know that I fucking hate Elon these days, but if you wanna go down the line you can and here’s what you’ll find:

Mercedes: Nazis
Volkswagen: Nazis obviously
BMW: Nazis
Toyota: Nazi adjacent
Ford: Racist/Antisemite

If you own a car, your hands are not clean. Sorry to be the one to break it to you.

Also, do I think it’s a really bad idea to buy a robot from Elon? Oh yes for sure, Optimus is definitely going to turn into a murder bot within one to five years of purchase. Am I getting one? I will be pre-ordering on day one!!! ????

I find it very revealing how many people seem to think being a CEO means you must remain agnostic on every public opinion as if their permission to speak freely is governed by some random person on the Internet.

??

I remember when the exact same people that say that we’re happy to say it when we were talking about athletes of a certain varietal.

???

I’m also aware that it’s a bad business model to antagonize your core customers. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences of said speech (and also the first amendment is a restriction on the government but we don’t need to get into that).

There used to be a time when most people knew that you didn’t talk about politics or religion in business. Some people must learn the hard way. I think that’s harder when you’re on the spectrum.

Before anyone knew what the cybertruck was, who made it, and what it cost, was a different world.

The negativity has a lot less to do with what the truck is, than what people perceive it means.

There’s a subset of people who need to focus their lack of fulfillment on hating something. They just absolutely suck the fun and life out of the room.

Think of all the people who have been looking forward to enjoying this thing for 5 years.

Now imagine there’s a subset of people that have made it their personality and life mission to try and make people feel bad about their decisions and purchase that doesn’t impact them in any way at all.

… now think if those are the type of people you should worry about.

This truck is a slap right across the face of boring 100+ year old designs that are deathly afraid of innovation.

I know a LOT more about the EV subject matter than anyone I have come across in person. Anytime I get someone who randomly sprouts ignorant misinformation (rare) they got from their TV or tiktok, I ask them to explain the exact details /mechanism of whatever they are trying to say. They always quickly try to change the subject when they realize that they have no idea what they are talking about. I then double down until it gets really uncomfortable lmao.

Fight propaganda with functional knowledge.

Also, the vast majority of people I talk to about EVs are sincerely curious. It helps that I always ask people if they have driven one. If not, I insist that they hop in the driver's seat and go full send.I haven't come across a single person in 5 years who were completely blown away. Don't believe the Internet opinions. They are extremely skewed.

Human nature to fear change and even mock it. i think the cost of the truck doesn’t help with the “eat the rich” mentality. Meanwhile all new cars are expensive lately.

Add in people hearing the media say it’s low quality and every recall etc being talked about over and over. Nobody talks about the endless recalls on all other new cars and models. People want it to fail. They want Tesla to fail unfortunately because of Elon and the fact that it’s change which people are afraid of. 90% of these people have never driven one. It’s easy to form opinions without experiencing it.

I feel bad for these people it’s a sad world when we worry too much what others think. There would be no art and music if humans were this fearful. Go online and read about it and you’re made to feel like you’re an idiot with too much money for buying a cybertruck. What’s that say about the internet? It’s not just you, nor is it just this product.

People are angry, and divided and the internet and social media fuels it. Once the hype dies it won’t be easy to get engagement from the cybertruck as a topic then it will stop, and the average public will stop having it blasted in their daily lives and people will move on to the next thing. I see tons of YouTubers making a cybertruck video just for engagement. It’s a popular topic right now and even more popular if you’re shitting on it.

We also have to take into account that we live on a planet in which this absolute clown has more than a million followers.

I didn’t buy it for the attention. I bought it because I love the design and the tech. And I love Back to Future growing up. Wish I had money back then to buy a Delorean. I think you are wrong on that one Wilson. It’s probably more like 5% do it for the attention. If there were no attention. It be better for me.

I watch videos of the Cybetruck for years on my TV. My kid's have seen it while I watched those videos. Asked to buy Cybertruck toys to play with. When I finally got my truck, sometimes I didn't want the attention and would try and drive our other vehicles. "Why not the Cybetruck daddy?" I quickly switch my tune. Fuck those haters.
