Minimum Range YOU REQUIRE to go through with Cybertruck purchase

This is a BIG concern I have. I do like Jack's answer/caveats. The only addition I will add is these need to be "real world" miles not the typical "optimized scenario" miles we see.

Everyone's real world is different. Someone in FL with no hills and long straight roads differs a lot from a Coloradan or Bostonian. Texas? Tennessee? LA? Kern County?

What is missing is charging time. We have a 2017 and a 2021 MS. Differences in charging time for the two are almost two to one. Having a large capacity battery pack is only half the solution. Larger packs need high charging rate to be useful.

I reserved a CT in November 2019. The 500 mile tri-motor version.

In the meantime, since I didn't want to put my boat in and out of the water using a tractor, I bought a Ford Lightning with 320 miles of range. (Turns out to be a great vehicle to have - the Frunk is amazing, the fit and finish great and the ride is super smooth)

320 miles (of course not what you get in reality) has worked out fine, but not ideal when traveling and having to use crappy CCS stations. So, 350 miles would be my minimum. I wouldn't purchase a Cybertruck with under 300 miles of range, even after waiting all this time.

I want at least 400 miles range as when I travel long distances, I typically drive faster than the speed limit which effects range, plus all the gear I would be taking with me. I want that range buffer. One destination I drive to is in the middle of almond groves, so no superchargers close to the destination.

You don't need SuperChargers at your destination, that's what Destination Chargers are for. Any place with 240v outlets will do (RV parks, campsites, etc.) For me, the destination is where I want to spend some time, not driving. Hiking, biking, museuming (is that a word?) If you look at DCFC holes on a map, it can look daunting, but if search for RV sites in those areas, range anxiety will subside.

RVers have the travel day rule of threes: Don't travel more than 300 miles, arrive before 3:00, and stay at least 3 days. 300 miles mean you only have to SuperCharge once (at your lunch stop) and staying 3 days gives you more than enough time to recharge before your next travel day.

I want the most range available. Given only the options above, 450 is the minimum.

Given I only charge an NCM battery to 90% (now 80% is recommended). I don't anticipate an LFP for dual or tri.

An acceptable capacity loss of after 5 years and it plateauing at <10% would be 405. Then charged to 90% is 364.5.

Like the majority of truck owners I'm not towing.

Use case.

Is a Mazda Miata a good car? Sure, but you are not taking the kids and dogs to Home Depot in it.

Is a Subaru Outback a good car? Sure, but not if you need to haul lumber.

Is the Cybertruck going to be a great vehicle? Most likely, but I wouldn't buy one to tow an Airstream. I'd buy an ICE or Diesel F250 or GMC 2500.

The Cybertruck won't be everything to everyone, just like the Miata and Outback aren't.

yup. people forget that NCM chemistry has a usable range of about 60%. You don't want to go over 80% or below 20% often. 60% of 300 is 180 miles, and if you half that for efficiency ( spirited driving or cold weather) a 300 mile truck only has a realistic range of 90 miles. WITHOUT towing.

If so that would be 342 Wh/mi, which is very efficient for a vehicle of Cybertruck size and weight.

2.92 miles/kWh is great for an EV truck and not out of spec for Tesla, considering the Rivian R1T Max Pack gets 2.27 miles /kWh

I think the hummer's proven that we have not reached the point of a second stage yet... But an equation would be nice to have, agreed

60 to 100-kWh batteries range from 350 to 600 kg. If the CT wights 4500kg, thats about 12% of the total vehicle weight. a 200kw pack might be 20% . I know its not just the pack but the suspension and body weight that go up with it, but I think we could still double that and get away with it..
