The mobile charger that came with my truck doesn’t seem to work correctly. When plugged into 120v, there is a red light that blinks. Sometimes it will still charge the truck, but at only around 6 amps. Other times it will trip a breaker repeatedly. I have tried several different outlets. I have not tried 220v.

I also have an older mobile charger from my model X that charges the truck fine without any issues from the same outlets. So I’m assuming it’s the charger.

Anyone else have a similar issues? (Pictures below)

When the red light blinks, what is the pattern?
6A limit could be a faulty plug adapter, mobile connector, or the adapter isn't fully plugged into the mobile connector. Could try using the adapter from the working unit.

Is it a GFCI breaker that is tripping?

The Blinking is a steady on / off. Probably every 2 seconds. It blinks once it’s plugged in regardless if it’s charging or not. I can try to switch the plug adapter from the working one when I get back from my trip. That’s a good idea.

it’s not on a GFCI. When it tripped, it’s been a 15amp breaker at the panel, but only at my rental cabin, so that could be a fluke with that one outlet.

The manual seems to indicate that the temp is too high, but it’s not. It starts the second it’s plugged in, even if it’s 40F outside.

Green: Streaming Continuous

Red: flashing

Charging current is
reduced due to high
temperature detected in
the vehicle connector.

I have tried 3 outlets. And it still charges, just slower. It’s extremely unlikely all 3 of the outlets were not grounded properly. Thanks for the suggestion!

Green isn't streaming though, is it?
Should only be when actively charging. So in your case when it's supplying 6 Amps.

When it’s charging the green is streaming and the red light continuously flashes. If it’s plugged into the wall, but not to the truck yet, it’s one solid green light and a continuous blinking red light. The manual doesn’t seem to cover that. I guess I’ll contact Tesla and see if something is faulty.

I used my mobile charger for the first few weeks and then put it away. When I tried to use it again the car wouldn’t charge…I took the car in for service and they ended up replacing my mobile charger for a new unit. If the unit is faulty service should replace it.

Try unplugging / pulling apart the short tesla plug from the box that is blinking and then plugging it back in. Meaning the charger unit has a small 1 ft pigtail with interchangeable plugs for different wall outlets, sometimes this short cord gets pulled a bit loose and needs to be reseated…

Thanks All, I tried all of the above with the exact same result. Called roadside support and they said it’s probably a faulty charger. Unfortunately they won’t just send me one, I have to go to a service center, and I don’t live close to any. Oh well. I guess I’ll plan a short road trip.

For anyone curious, mobile chargers that come with the truck have a 4 year warranty.

My mobile charger worked fine ... for a while. Both 110 and 220 charged as expected with the 220 delivering 2x/32amps on the 50 amp breaker. Came back from a trip and got the red flashing light. If I plug into 220, it still charges at 2x/6amps which is a lot like it USED to charge on the 15amp 110 outlet.

Tried at a friends house: 110 gives the same blinking red light and only charges at 1x 6amps.

Have a service appt in a week. Prob learn something then.

Yup, same exact issue. Can you come back and post results here so I have a better idea of what to do?

This is killing me on my road trip out in the country. I can’t plug in overnight and keep losing charge. Probably 4% each night even though I have turned off everything I can think of.

If one outlet is not grounded then probably all in that system are not properly grounded.
